4 1. Geospatial Data for SDGs SDGs require integration of various types of data and information. Through the Pacific project on early warning systems, RESAP supported Fiji, Tonga, and Micronesia with two one-month trainings for operating geospatial information platforms for multi-hazard early warning systems.

5 RESAP is developing statistical geospatial indicators to measure and monitor the progress of disaster-related SDGs. A pilot project to test the use of these geospatial indicators will be conducted in the Central-Asia region.

7 2. Regional Drought Mechanism Enhance capacity of drought-prone countries to utilize integrated space and in-season ground data and information for drought monitoring and early warning. Create a toolbox or menu of products, information and services to support the management of drought. Cambodia and Myanmar: Training on GIS and development of a tailored drought monitoring and water accounting system, including a DataCube for geospatial data. Mongolia: development of a dzud monitoring system. Sri Lanka: Foster institutional links for more effective use of the drought monitoring system.

9 Agro-ecological zones identified Example in Mongolia Drought mapping was made combined by 3 regions which has more than 50% correlation including forest, steppe, desert steppe. The correlations between RS index and Drought index calculated by meteorological parameter were different in various natural zones separately. 11 3. Knowledge Products and Research A series of three handbooks on using space applications and geospatial information for disaster risk management. Developed under the ASEAN-UN Joint Strategic Plan of Action on Disaster Management In collaboration with UN-SPIDER, UNOSAT, AHA Centre, space agencies, national disaster management authorities, regional institutions and experts.

12 Gaps and Needs Analysis Report on geo-portals and geo-databases for multi-hazard early warning systems of Pacific island countries. Example of South-South cooperation. Strengthening regional cooperative mechanisms, connecting regional and national knowledge-hubs for sharing spatial and socio-economic data and lessons learned. The final version of the report will be shared with regional stakeholders in early 2018.

Capacity-Building Programmes ASEAN Regional Workshop on Standardization of Methodologies for Multi-hazard Risk Assessment and Integration of Satellite Imageries for Rapid Assessment of Post-disaster Damage and Losses. Training on geo-portals and geo-databases for early warning systems in the Pacific region. International Workshop with AHA Center under the auspices of the ASEAN-UN Joint Strategic Plan of Action on Disaster Management. Asia-Pacific Space Agency Forum with JAXA: Space Applications for Environment (SAFE).

14 EGM for the development of a strategy for a knowledge hub on early warning systems in the Pacific. Training on multi-hazard early warning systems in the Pacific region. ESCAP-KOICA Fellowship Programme 2017: Capacity building on spatial data and technologies for urban planning and urban disaster management.

Support to Disaster-Affected Countries Provided >70 satellite images and damage maps to disaster affected countries: Floods: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Philippines, Thailand, Viet Nam, Lao PDR Earthquakes: Philippines Cyclones: Bangladesh, Philippines, Vanuatu, Vietnam Complex emergencies: Philippines.

Delivering One UN and Partnerships RESAP supports member countries through its network and its partnerships with international and regional organizations, including UN entities, regional and national organizations These partnerships help improve knowledge and capacity of member countries in the use of space technology applications and geospatial information systems.

17 II. Asia-Pacific Plan of Action ( ) The success implementation of Regional Plan of Action In line with the Regional Roadmap of 2030 Development Agenda. Gaps exist between the enormous demands on exploring the full potential of the space applications, integration with other frontier technology applications and lack of the capacity to access innovative space tools.

18 Integration with the frontier technologies, such as AI,VR, intelligent manufacturing and cloud computing to mitigate the gaps. Interagency cooperation and partnership will be enhanced. Developing regional cloud based meta-data platform including the remotes sensing data, baseline maps, statistics and big data related to socioeconomic development, for sharing of best practices, evidence based policy advice and monitoring the implementation of SDGs.
