10 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map In the list on the right, expand the Resources menu and select Maps

11 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map Traffic Data will take open the Traffic Statistics homepage where there is useful information about INDOTs traffic data collection and reporting program. The other two links open the Interactive Traffic Data Map.

12 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map This will bring up the Interactive Traffic Flow Map. The Terms of Use must be accepted before proceeding.

13 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map To the right of the map are three tabs. Each contains valuable information about how the data on the map is derived and displayed and should be reviewed prior to use of any data obtained from the map. The tabs are Search Tools Information Instructions

14 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map Legend Traffic Zones are color coded by traffic volume State owned and maintained routes are labeled with their Route Name, AADT and daily volume of commercial vehicles At closer zoom scales, the locations where counts were collected are displayed.

15 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map Search Tools By using the pull down menus, one can select a County, City or Route that can be zoomed to by clicking the Go button A Count Station number can be zoomed to by typing the Count Station number into the Enter a Station ID box and clicking on the Go button

16 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map Search Tools The radio buttons can be used to display different sets of data Links are included to access maps of older data and documents describing the various factors that are used to develop the data in the map. A link offers the opportunity to download the traffic data in a Shape file.

17 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map Map Features Clicking on a Route segments opens a bubble with information about that segment.

18 Indiana Interactive Traffic Data Map Map Features Clicking on a Count Station opens a bubble with information about that Station and includes links to download reports of the data collected at the site, where available.

19 Using INDOT Traffic Data Adjustment Factors Factors are developed to estimate the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) from a short term count. Types of Factors Seasonal Adjustment Weekday Adjustment Axle Adjustment Annual Growth Factor Application Short term counts are MULTIPLIED by the adjustment factors to generate an AADT

28 Using INDOT Traffic Data Shapefile download The shapefile is a collection of files with geospatial and tabular data. Among them is a dbase file (.dbf) Can be opened using Microsoft Excel by right click/open with feature. Quick Analysis with Pivot Tables

29 Using INDOT Traffic Data Calculating Annual Average Daily Traffic AADT = (Raw Count) * (Seasonal) * (Weekday) * (Axle) * (Growth) Which Factor to apply depends on: Year Month Functional Classification Factors are developed annually based on previous calendar year data.

30 Using INDOT Traffic Data Calculating Vehicle Miles Traveled VMT Daily Vehicle Miles Traveled DVMT = AADT * (Segment Length) miles Annual Vehicle Miles Traveled AVMT = DVMT * 365
