Managing Local Land Concerns, Maintaining Corporate Governance Leveraging the GIS Capability within FlexiCadastre Regional User Conference, North America May 6 th May 9 th, 2013 Cameron McKellar, Technical Analyst
Leveraging FlexiCadastre s GIS Capability Recent releases of FlexiCadastre contain suite of GIS tools to enhance the GIS capability of the system ArcGIS Server 10 environment allows for distribution of GIS Services available outside FlexiCadastre system Agenda Advanced Map Interface Tools ArcGIS Server / Map Services Consume ArcGIS Server Resources Creating Mash-Ups
Advanced Map Interface Tools The FlexiCadastre Map Interface provides the standard set of web mapping tools such as pan, zoom, identify, find etc. found in most web mapping application FlexiCadastre now provides Advanced Map Interface Tools such as: Bookmarks Select Using Overlay Map Print Template Draw (XY)
Bookmark Advanced Map Interface Tools The Bookmark Tool allows the user to zoom to an area of interest (i.e. Project Location) and save the extent for future reference The view can be accessed anytime via the Bookmark tool window and can be set as a default bookmark when opening a map service
Advanced Map Interface Tools
Advanced Map Interface Tools Select Feature using Overlay The basic selection tool allows the user to use a point or rectangle to select system record; advanced selection utilizes the previous selection to select any features using the initial selection as an overlap
Advanced Map Interface Tools Basic Advanced Selection: Selection: Select by Point using or Overlay Shape
Advanced Map Interface Tools Map Print Template The Map Print Template tool provides the users with the ability to export maps from FlexiCadastre for printing The template is generated by selecting the ( ) icon where the users can select the output format type, legend type and specific scale of printed map
Advanced Map Interface Tools
Draw Shape Advanced Map Interface Tools Tool allows users to draw/plot coordinates within the FlexiCadastre Map window Provides user ability to check location of points, line and polygon features they have coordinates for
Advanced Map Interface Tools
What is a map service? Map Services - Overview Method of publishing maps to the Web using the ArcGIS software suite Users can then consume the service in a variety of ways such as Web Applications (FlexiCadastre), ArcMap, ArcGIS Explorer etc. A map service allows the map features and attribute data to become accessible in the client application
Author ArcGIS Desktop Map Services - FlexiCadastre Publish ArcGIS Server Consume Web Application
Map Services - FlexiCadastre FlexiCadastre can be configured to consume multiple map services on an ArcGIS Server Examples: Project Jurisdiction Department Access to system map services applied through users authorization Map services inherit authorization from FlexiCadastre
Example Creating Project Map Service
Example Creating Project Map Service
Annnnd Voila!
Consuming Services outside FlexiCadastre The ArcGIS Server 10 system allows for the map services created for FlexiCadastre to be consumed in a variety of end applications Desktop: ArcMap, ArcGIS Explorer, Google Earth, SharePoint Web Applications: ArcGIS Explorer Online, ArcGIS Online, Google Maps, ArcGIS API for Flex/Silverlight/JavaScript The map services can be tailored to display either a single or multiple datasets
ArcMap
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop
Google Earth
Web Feature Service Courtesy:
Database Views Essentially, a view is a stored query that selects data from specified tables Views differ from query in that they are stored in the database and can be given specific permissions Example: Create view for all Ontario Geologists View can be consumed as Map Service with various capabilities such as WFS, KML, MapServer
Database Views
ArcGIS for SharePoint Courtesy:
Mashups Refers to a web service that combines functionality and content from different sources Utilizes operational (Examples: License polygons, drill hole data) and basemap layers (Bing, Google Maps, ArcGIS Online) Mashups allow live access to spatial data in FlexiCadastre and other sources
Mashups: ArcMap
Mashups: Google Earth
