Autodesk LandXplorer Features and Benefits Use the Autodesk LandXplorer software family to help improve decision making, lower costs, view and share changes, and avoid the expense of creating physical models and animations of your city. Leverage existing investments in software and data by aggregating geospatial, civil engineering, computer-aided design (CAD), building information modeling (BIM), and utility network detail in a single city model. Introduction Imagine being able to visualize proposed changes to your city and then to share them with citizens and stakeholders before construction begins. Whether you need to create models of small- or largescale city and infrastructure projects, the Autodesk LandXplorer software family provides you with visualization tools that help you to make better informed design decisions throughout the urban design lifecycle Autodesk LandXplorer Studio Professional 2009 Autodesk LandXplorer Studio Professional software makes it easier to create, manage, and distribute digital city models, landscape models, and virtual 3D environments. Compose, arrange, edit, and manage city models and urban design projects using a single application. Data Preparation Tools Create a base for your digital city model by using wizard driven tasks to process your existing Digital Elevation Models or image files into a LandXplorer terrain Use existing georeferenced raster files to create LandXplorer terrain textures Aerial photography Scanned topographic maps Satellite imagery Scanned development plans Prepare data once, use many times.

City Model Creation Tools Build City Models from existing 2D or 2.5D data (Level Of Detail 1 or Level Of Detail 2). Use data from a variety of formats including, Oracle database Microsoft SQL Server database OGR MySQL Web Feature Services (WFS) SDF files ESRI SHP files CityGML files Better realize extra benefits from traditional enterprise investments by aggregating data from existing GIS and CAD sources, as well as 3D models from Autodesk 3ds Max, AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit -based products and Autodesk VIZ into a digital city model. Import detailed 3D models (LOD 3 or LOD 4) Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Revit --based productsproducts, Autodesk ImageModeler (*.3ds) Autodesk Alias Wavefront (*.obj) Collada XML Scene Import (*dae) STL Binary File (*.stl, *.stb) Vector Data Tools Import vector data such as zoning data, utilities data, or points of interest using opensource Feature Data Objects (FDO) technology. Use spatial data that resides in a variety of data sources including Oracle database Microsoft SQL Server database OGR MySQL WFS SDF files ESRI SHP files Leverage data that has already been created and better visualize this in your city model. Database Plug in Use the Database Plugin to import, export and store terrain models, terrain textures, and city models in a central, more accessible CityGML-based database. Use CityGML 1.0 so that your digital city model is based on OGC data standards, helping to share data in an open format with your stakeholders. 2

Manage City Models Continuously refine your model by using the city model tools to add new data as it becomes available Scanned historic maps or aerial photography Updated cadastral footprints Evolving transport networks New points of interest Planned development areas. More easily remove obsolete data Demolished buildings Development scenarios Create an evolving model which can better represent past and future views of the city. Continuously refine your digital city model by adding new building model data sets, detailed 3D models, and updated aerial photography or scanned historical maps. Visualisation Tools Building textures Generic textures can be automatically applied to simple block buildings Bespoke textures for important buildings Tooltips Use attribute data to create more informative tooltips Dynamic skies allows simulation of different light conditions Sun Clouds Advanced atmospheric properties Watershading provides the illusion of dynamic water bodies Create an intuitive, more visually compelling digital city model. Visually tailor 3D city models according to the users - with advanced visualisation techniques for urban planning and economic development stakeholders, or simple extruded buildings with imported utilities data for engineering stakeholders. Simulate and Analyse Import existing analysis data in vector format Buffer areas, noise contours, pollution plumes Use data from a wide range of applications, such as AutoCAD Map 3D, Autodesk Topobase, ESRI ArcGIS software Use rules-based actions to thematically analyze the model Define action to be taken Define rules based on attribute data Better simulate urban design scenarios Import development plans as terrain Add building models, vegetation and planned utility data to better visualize a development in its environmental context Better simulate different urban design scenarios, and present analysis results in a more meaningful and intuitive manner. Minimize the need for costly physical models by better simulating urban design projects digitally, at all stages of the design cycle. 3

Tools for Sharing City Models Autodesk LandXplorer Server Publish and better manage city models on the web Snapshots and movie files Create fly-throughs and pictures for reports Pack and Go Interactive sharing using Autodesk LandXplorer Xpress Viewer Autodesk LandXplorer Publisher Publish your city model to KML Create snapshots, AVI movies, and LandXplorer Xpress projects that allow you to share your entire city model, or parts of it, without relinquishing control of the data to third parties. Autodesk LandXplorer Server LandXplorer Server makes it easier for an organization to more securely share a navigable, virtual 3D model of their city, helping urban design professionals to provide more secure access to an extended group of stakeholders and citizens who want or need to use the digital city model to obtain information about their urban environment. Publish and host virtual city models on an Intranet or the Internet Publish and upload a city model from LandXplorer Studio Professional using the Pack n Go feature Enables an organization to share their city model, created in LandXplorer Studio Professional 2009, with internal and external stakeholders over the internet. Helps agencies and city leaders to support the decision making process for projects by providing access to the model for a wider audience. Internet-based client More secure sharing of urban design projects Server project management Access published city models using standard web technologies Server administrators can better control publishing and viewing rights using the security features of Microsoft IIS Access the Management Client from either the publishing environment or the server environment to better manage projects that have been published and are ready for hosting on the server. All stakeholders can more easily explore and create snapshots of their urban environment using a generic web browser Help protect projects from being altered or viewed by unauthorized parties. Model owners can administer their published city models remotely from the server, or on the publishing desktop. 4

Autodesk LandXplorer Publisher Publish a digital city model to KML format to help allow key stakeholders such as the general public, commercial firms in the city, and other city agencies, to view a city model in the Google Earth environment. Produce KML-based representations of a 3D city model Encryption mechanisms for protection of data. Extensive Configuration Options Process, transform, and convert a city model systematically and automatically into KMZ, a compressed version of KML Digital rights and modern encryption mechanisms help prevent reconstruction of the original data and maintain better data security Set up and arrange your data to better meet the individual needs of your target audience Deliver KMZ files directly to users Post a city model to a Web server Specify the properties of data layers Block buildings Points of Interest Trees Lines and Polygons o CAD models Make available and better visualize very large amounts of data on demand. Share your city models with a much wider audience in an environment which is familiar to them Generated data remains under your control, and does not have to be administered by Google or Microsoft. Help make sure that data published to the public domain is fit for purpose, and meets your standards. Autodesk LandXplorer Xpress Viewer You can more easily share your Digital City using Autodesk LandXplorer Xpress Viewer. LandXplorer customers can distribute their city model to stakeholders more rapidly and cost effectively through Autodesk LandXplorer Xpress Viewer, a free* program available for download at Visualize and explore digital city models created in Autodesk LandXplorer Studio Professional Use this free viewer to navigate around a city model, search for points of interest and create snapshots for use in reports or presentations. Provide urban design stakeholders the ability to better explore and interact with 3D city models. 5
