2 Organization Overview Entrada/San Juan is a GIS consultancy based in Blaine, WA Industries supported include Natural Resources, Public Safety, Government Offices in Blaine, WA and Mount Vernon, WA I m a one-person shop I ve been an Esri User since 1993 (PC ArcInfo, ArcCAD, ArcView 1.0)

3 Project Description Objectives Design/develop training materials for geoscientists (and many others), published in Esri s ArcUser technical quarterly Create and deploy timely, relevant, best practice training products, keeping close to current software release Mythology, Timetable, Project Support Ideas from Users; guidance from Esri editors; technical support from Esri support and Esri product managers Project is ongoing, although I am switching back to my Public Safety training role Project support from Esri for over 15 years (more than 75 articles) Results It really is all about Training!

4 System Environment Windows XP, Windows 7 laptops and workstations (32 and 64 bit) ArcGIS Basic with Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Network Analyst, and other extensions Training data is generally synthetic; Some training data adapted from US Geological Survey, Nevada, Bureau of Mines, US National Atlas

5 Benefits My primary focus is to: Develop and deploy current self-guided training materials for earth scientists and others Test, adapt, document, and train Esri s technology for Earth Science, Public Safety, and other industries Publish materials frequently in Esri s ArcUser technical quarterly Significant achievements include: Prepare and publish approximately 75 ArcUser articles and tutorials Support Esri IMIN/MINE instructor-led training

6 Lesson Learned It is not always easy to stay current with professional demands and technological advances Pool your resources; Participate in Industry User Groups and related support activities Provide feedback to Esri Industry managers Patience and Persistence Pay!

7 Future Plans I plan to: Continue writing, testing, and developing training materials Continue to work closely with Esri editor Monica Pratt to develop and place contemporary, Industry specific training materials for users in multiple industries Work closely with key Esri product managers, developers, and technical support staff Remain active within several Esri user communities Retire(?) one day, but never stop learning!
