9 INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE NORTH SEA Marine Planning in the Netherlands Objective: To enhance the economic importance of the North Sea and maintain and develop the international ecologic and landscape features by developing and harmonising sustainable spatial economic activities in the North Sea, taking into account the ecological and landscape features of the North Sea.

21 Marine Planning in the Netherlands 2 CONCLUSION What are important elements in the international context? good use of existing legislation (e.g. ESPOO) cooperation between neighbouring countries information exchange e.g. within regional sea programmes ecosystem approach In the Netherlands opinion there is no need for additional EU legislation on spatial planning.
