4 Digital Topographic Map 1 : 1 DTK 2 Description of data contents 2.1 General The Digital Topographic Map 1 : 1 (DTK) includes the raster data of the General Map Deutschland 1 : 1 (D) (normal edition). The raster data are subdivided into several layers according to their cartographic content. The DTK has one combined layer as well as six single and six additional layers. The combined layer (layer ) is a combination of the single layers 1-4, 6 and 7 and offers the complete coloured map image of the D. The additional layers (layers 5, 8-9) contain further information on vegetation, hill shading, and hypsometric tints and also provide the geographical and UTM grids (layers 1, 11). These additional layers have to be ordered explicitly since they are not part of the standard supply for single layers. Colours and structure of single and additional layers for the DTK basically correspond to the colours of the D. For practical reasons, some layers received additional thematic attributions of individual map elements. This implies an advantage for the user since each layer covers the whole federal territory. The single layers of all Digital Topographic Maps distributed by the BKG have an identical structure, except for some scale-dependent special characteristics. More differentiated information is allowed by colour channels which are part of the single and additional layers. Certain cartographic elements are assigned to these channels (see chapter 2.2). Please note that cartographic symbols may contain graphical gaps to avoid certain overlays with symbols of other layers. This is because the single layers were generated for the purpose of map printing. 2.2 Content and colour charts of the single and additional layers The following tables give descriptions of the content and the colour chart of each layer. The headline indicates the following: - Number of layer, e.g. Layer 1 - the essential content (the essential print colour in brackets) and - Priority, e.g. P6, indicates in which order the single layers have to be combined to produce the combined layer. 19 Digital Topographic Map 1 : 1 DTK 3 Information on data supply It is possible to select from different thematic sets of layers and georeferencing systems. The area of interest can be defined in any form and size, preferably rectangular. For large areas it is necessary to split the delivery into seamless tiles (see chapter 5). The Service Centre of the Federal Government for Geo-Information and Geodesy (Dienstleistungszentrum, DLZ) ( offers all possibilities of data supply, guides the user through the product line and indicates standard specifications and special services as well as the pricing system (see chapter 9). The information of the last update is indicated in the meta information: > About data and services > Overviews actuality The map sheet, each map tile and each rectangular section is supplied with an.akt-file showing the map sheets name and the year the map sheet has been updated. Example: Content of the file s3_4_1.akt DTK;217 4 Map sheet and BKG tiling systems The single map sheet is offered in the sheet line system of the General Topographic Map 1 : 1 (D), i.e. one raster data file is produced for each layer of this map sheet. To provide large amounts of seamless data we use the long-term defined tiling scheme by BKG. Dependent on the georeference the data will be split into square tiles. This supports the user in processing the current data more efficient and in updating the data by replacing single tiles. Sheet and tile indexes are available at Information and notes. The DTK is provided as a set of 8 km x 8 km tiles. The tiles are numbered by rows and columns, beginning top left with _. For example the tile s3_6_8 covers the 7 th row and 9 th column of the tiling system in the 3 rd meridian strip of the Gauss-Krüger projection. DTK page 19

20 Digital Topographic Map 1 : 1 DTK 5 Description of data formats The data will be delivered on the selected data carrier and will have the following directory structure: <Name of the product> <Name of the map sheet, the tile or the region> <Name of the layer >.tif <Name of the layer >.tfw... <Name of the map sheet, the tile or the region>.akt Example tiling scheme: dtk-v s3_3_4 s3_3_5 l1.tif l1.tfw l2.tif l2.tfw l7.tif l7.tfw s3_3_4.akt l1.tif l1.tfw l2.tif l2.tfw The following georeferencing information is available for each raster index: - corresponding World file (file extension.tfw ) - embedded georeferencing information (GeoTIFF). Colour coded data (the combined layer and the single layers as standard) will preferably be delivered as packed LZW. The TIFF format uses an integrated RGB palette. Colour depth is 8 bit by default. DTK page 2

21 Digital Topographic Map 1 : 1 DTK 6 Terms of use and acknowledgement of source According to the Geodata Access Act (Geodatenzugangsgesetz) this data set is available at no charge via geodata services for download and online use for commercial and non-commercial use. The use of geodata and geodata services is subject to the Verordnung zur Festlegung der Nutzungsbestimmungen für die Bereitstellung von Geodaten des Bundes (GeoNutzV, Regulation on the determination of terms of use for the provision of federal geodata) of 19 March 213 (Federal Law Gazette 213, Part I, No 14). In particular, each user has to place the source remark to all geodata, metadata and geodata services visibly and optically connected. Changes, processings, new designs or other variations have to be provided with a change note in the source remark. Source remark and change note have to be formulated as follows. When displayed on a web site, the source remark has to be linked with the URL " GeoBasis-DE / BKG <year of last data supply> GeoBasis-DE / BKG <year of last data supply> (data changed) Example: GeoBasis-DE / BKG Data supply The data set is supplied free of charge in the most common specifications and as web service under Open Data The data set can be ordered in more georeferencings in the Geodata Shop of the Service Centre against reimbursement of the costs. It can be provided on data carrier or via FTP: Online Shop Geodata Shop The extra costs for this are charged for by the BKG. Orders may also be addressed to: Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie Referat GI5 - Dienstleistungszentrum Karl-Rothe-Straße 1-14 D-415 Leipzig Tel.: +49() Fax: +49() dienstleistungszentrum@bkg.bund.de Please find further information and more service at DTK page 21
