2 About the Danish Geodata Agency The Danish Geodata Agency (Geodatastyrelsen) ensures that geographical information about land and sea is collected, quality checked and made accessible on the internet. Information such as the location of roads, houses, lakes and streams or what the landscape looks like and where boundaries are located. This information is used by public authorities in connection with climate protection, the provision of mobile access to data, information services to citizens and by the Police and emergency services when carrying out their tasks. Geodatastyrelsen s largest customer is the Ministry of Defence. Geodatastyrelsen houses the Centre of Expertise for Spatial Information for the Ministry of the Environment and thus plays a central role in the organising of the use of shared public data which forms the foundation for a more efficient and modern public sector. Geodatastyrelsen SIDE 2
3 Tasks of the Danish Geodata Agency Accurate and precise data are required by public administrators and the Ministry of Defence. As a consequence Geodatastyrelsen regularly carries out land surveys and aerial photography of the country. Geodatastyrelsen is responsible for the nation-wide digital registration of land. The Cadastral Register is part of what you might call a property system which makes it possible to determine who owns the property in question and where it is located. Geodatastyrelsen is responsible for the planning of and production of nautical charts of the waters surrounding Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, just as Geodatastyrelsen also represents Denmark internationally within the field of geographical information. Geodatastyrelsen employs approximately 300 people and has its headquarters in Copenhagen. Geodatastyrelsen SIDE 3

7 Strategi Mission The Geodata Agency works to ensure that geodata give best possible benefit for society. Vision Geodata is used coordinated by the public sector, ensures coherence in digitalisation and increases the quality and efficiency of public administration for the benefit of citizens and business. 12 Reuse of data: Basic data what is it Public authorities in Denmark register various core information about individuals, businesses, real properties, buildings, addresses, and more. This information, called basic data, is re-used throughout the public sector. Re-use of high-quality data is an essential basis for public authorities to perform their tasks properly and efficiently across units, administrations and sectors. Basic data is maintained in a number of base registers PAGE 12
13 The goal: A national data infrastructure that contains a complete, correct and current basic registration of all objects important for public administration that is maintained in a cost-effective manner that is coherent, modelled uniformly and fully documented that is freely and fully available technically, legally and economically that is used by all major public and private players that contributes to efficiency and productivity in the public and private sector PAGE 13

16 The Data Distributor conveys updated and authentic information from base registers on to the relevant public and private sector users based on the same conceptual thinking as the Digital Map Supply which is also content provider for INSPIRE data will fulfil the requirement for accessing data in an easy, fast, reliable and cost-effective manner will save resources for data responsible authorities PAGE 16
17 Free access to basic data for everyone Once the initiatives have been fully implemented, the revenues for society are expected to be approx. 100 million annually. Private sector revenues will be approx. 65 million annually It is expected that the real estate, insurance, financial, telecom and utility sectors, as well as GPS manufacturers and entrepreneurs will be among those to benefit hugely from the initiatives PAGE 17
