Simpson State Engineer Dave McElhaney Project Manager
2 DESIGNATED GROUNDWATER BASIN October 04 This report represents water level measurement data for the North Kiowa-Bijou Ground Water Management District for the 03 season. The project was done in cooperation with the Management District and with local well owners. Funding for the project is supplied in part from well permit fees collected and managed by the Office of the State Engineer as a cash fund designated for use in obtaining ground water information throughout the state. A total of 35 wells were measured during the month of February 04. These wells are all part of the observation well network that has been measured for many years. Records on at least one well date back to 936. However, most of the wells date from the 950's and 9's. Water level changes for 35 wells measured between 03 and 04 range from a decline of 6.78 feet in KB-38, to a rise of 7.09 feet in KB-8. The average change for the 03 to 04 period is a decline of 0.63 feet compared to a decline of.26 feet between 02 and 03. For the last five years, the average decline in the basin has been 0.68 feet per year. The average decline for the last 0 years has been a decline of 0.56 feet. The northem half of the basin exhibits declining water levels with the greatest declines being in the most northerly portion of the basin. A new report format was created for this year's report. This is the result of placing all statewide water level data into HYDROBASE, which is a uniform database for all data collected and managed by the Division of Water Resources. Tabular data are presented for each well for the previous 0 years. Graphical data are presented for the entire period of record. Information concerning bedrock wells for the Denver Basin Aquifers will generally be available in June of each year and can be obtained from the Office of the State Engineer. This year's report was prepared under contract to George D. VanSlyke, PG, Consulting Ground Water Geologist. Copies of the report can be purchased from the Office of the State Engineer, Records Section, 33 Sherman St. Denver, CO 803, (3)
