GIS within AMS Functions in the Asset Management System application 3
Location Based Data Data that contains location based attributes can be stored in the AMS database along with it s geometry Points with coordinates Line segments along LRS Boundary polygons Data stored and projected using Oracle SDO_Geometry type Stored just like any column (defined column type as SDO) Versatile format 4
Mapping Built in mapping function within AMS Displays data from selected table/tables straight from within the application Select desired data> Right-Click> Show on Map 5
Mapping and Symbology Symbolization and labeling features Set color, opacity, and size Interface for creating data filter for symbolization 6
Mapping and Symbology Symbolizing Data Color options Opacity Border color Set min/max scale Rules Filter based upon data Set individual symobology options for each rule 7
Map Labels Labeling Create data labels from any columns in the data set Combine columns in label display (v6.9+) 8
External Map Sources Display data on Bing/Google Maps Quick way to view location in familiar format *Shown in floating map window using Google or Bing map services 9
Map Versions Version 6.x Standard layout Map on right Legend on left Places all tools in one view 10
Map Versions Version 7 Enhanced for mobile compatibility Provides default base maps Clears out clutter by places buttons in menus More area to focus on the map itself 11
Mapping Demo 12
Exporting Data Tables in the AMS have the option to be exported to a local copy on the users machine Variety of formats-csv, shapefile, kml, Excel, Dbf, html Useful for working with particular dataset in ArcGIS, giving the option of importing the standard shapefile format Filter selection using the Export Data interface to select exactly data is desired for exporting 13
Exporting Data from Map View When in the map view, it is possible to export data layers displayed on the map as well Same as other export functions, allows for csv, shapefile, etc Right Click on layer > Show Attributes> Export Data When using the filter function in the map view, data layers that have been filtered can be exported using only the data that has been selected 14
GIS Data Sources The product has the ability to import and display data from a variety of sources Web services, tiles, shapefiles, and database sources can all be configured to display data All sources are added in the Manage GIS Data Sources Window Allows you to configure which layers will be available when adding data to the map view 15
Adding GIS Sources The Edit GIS Data Source menu shows a table containing all data sources for displaying GIS data in the AMS Sources listed in the table consist of: Name, type (line, point, etc), data source and geometry column, coordinate reference system, extents, and source type (service, shapefile, etc) Add a new GIS source by right click> Create New GIS Data Source Allows you to display any GIS data to the floating maps shown in previous slides/ demonstration 16
Import/Export Demo 17
Connecting data to ArcGIS Two methods of connecting data from AMS to ArcGIS Using Export Data feature, then importing shapefile (or other format) into ArcGIS in the usual manner Connecting AMS database directly to ArcGIS through a database or SDE connection SDE Connection is a convenient method of sharing data between ArcGIS and the AMS Data is already stored with geometry, so it can be simply dragged into the ArcMap workspace and automatically projected Tables with data that is to be projected (XY Data, LRS Measures) can be added and used like any other table format Database has the most up to date data and does not require any additional steps for importing 18
Connecting data to ArcGIS SDE connection can be created in ArcCatalog or ArcMap Under the Database Connections menu in the catalog tree, choose the option for Add Spatial Database Connection AMS databases have particular attributes that need to be known to connect from ArcGIS Database Server Username and Password Service String sde:(database type): (service name) 19
Connecting data to ArcGIS Data from AMS can be used just as any local GIS data would be Usage Examples: Creating maps from AMS data Performing spatial operations Sharing data in a preferred medium or making stand-alone files available separate from the database Create straight line diagrams (right) Publish files to GIS server 20
Database Connection Demo 21
