1 Chemistry - Chemistry or Geochemistry BA/BS 1 CHEMISTRY - CHEMISTRY OR GEOCHEMISTRY BA/BS The Chemistry program prepares students for industrial or government laboratory work or graduate work in Chemistry or Biochemistry. The Chemistry emphasis provides a strong foundation for students entering the professional health fields, especially the pre-professional programs such as Pre- Medical, Pre-Dental, Pharmacy and Medical Technology. The Geochemistry emphasis couples a solid foundation in analytical chemistry with the deductive thinking skills, three-dimensional visualization skills, and fundamental understanding of earth materials that the earth sciences offer. Students graduating with this major are prepared for careers in the geo-technical industry as well as continuing their education in a graduate program in the Environmental Earth Sciences. Students may also complete courses required for secondary teaching certification. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to: Understand the relationship between matter and energy, composition and structure, and and their relation to physical and chemical behavior Apply chemical principles to biological, geological and environmental phenomena Demonstrate quantitative and conceptual reasoning Think critically and apply knowledge in novel contexts Safely and effectively apply laboratory skills Design, conduct and report scientific research within the discipline General Education Requirements Code Title Credits Written Communication Select one of the following: 6.00 ENGL-101 & ENGL-102 ENGL-109 Oral Communication COLLEGE WRITING and RESEARCH WRITING COLLEGE WRITING AND RESEARCH Select one from the following: 3.00 COMM-101 COMM-202 COMM-203 COMM-204 Mathematical Ways of Knowing PRINCIPLES OF SPEECH INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION SMALL GROUP COMMUNICATION PUBLIC SPEAKING MATH-170 CALCULUS I 4.00 Humanistic & Artistic Ways of Knowing ENGL-150 ENGL-257 ENGL-258 INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE WORLD CLASSICS INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE ART-100 HUM-101 HUM-150 MUS-101 MUS-102 MUS-150 MUS-151 THEA-101 Scientific Ways of Knowing SURVEY OF ART THE ART AND HISTORY OF THE MOTION PICTURE INTRODUCTION TO THE ARTS SURVEY OF MUSIC MUSIC IN AMERICA WORLD MUSIC HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATER SURVEY OF THE THEATER Select two of the following: 8.00 CHEM-111 PHYS-111 PHYS-211 PRINCIPLES OF CHEMISTRY I GENERAL PHYSICS I ENGINEERING PHYSICS I
