2 Atms/Ins/Istpes Unit I. Atms are made f a psitively charged nucleus surrunded by negatively charged electrns. The nucleus is a tiny fractin f the vlume f an atm but makes up almst all f its mass. The nucleus is cmpsed f prtns and neutrns which have rughly the same mass but differ in that prtns are psitively charged while neutrns have n electric charge. 4D/H1* II. The number f prtns in the nucleus determines what an atm's electrn cnfiguratin can be and s defines the element.
