1 AP Chemistry Summer Assignment st Assignment due July 15 th Final Assignment due September 3 rd All assignments are due by the specified dates. No late work will be accepted. Not completing the summer assignment will not be an acceptable reason for dropping AP Chemistry. This assignment is to ensure that you are prepared for the first unit test when we return to school in September. 1. All of the following must be completed by July 15, 2018: a. Access the class website at You need to look at the Summer Work page under the AP Chemistry tab. b. Students will be utilizing a test prep course to help with the concepts of the course. You must log in and create an account. i. Log on to ii. In the top right corner, click new user. iii. Click I m a Student in the pop-up box iv. Complete the information to create an account. v. Once in the system you will need to input your class code: j6nzl c. All end of the chapter problems in AP Chemistry are done through an online program, WebAssign (WA). You must log on to the the WA site to create your own account. i. Log on to ii. On the left side click, Log In iii. You will need to create an account. Click I have a class key iv. Enter the following class key: brandon.mi Follow the instructions to finish your account set up. d. Join Our Google Classroom i. Access Google classroom at classroom.google.com ii. Enter the class code 9mtyl1e iii. Please look over the assignments and complete the Group Me sign up assignment. ** Excuses involving site navigation problems or interact access will not be accepted. You are responsible for submitting your assignments by the due date with no excuses. The assignments and specific due dates are found on the last page of this packet. **

2 2. With each chapter, you will need to complete a Chapter Outline which includes key concepts and chapter vocabulary. These outlines will be uploaded to their specific assignment by the date specified on Google Classroom. The credit given will be determined by the depth and time put into the outlines. The outlines must be hand written and completed in the same notebook all year. I would suggest a cheap composition notebook. Reading and studying from a textbook is one skill many former students say they wish they had developed more during high school. We will be doing these assignments through out the year. 3. I am not a big fan of memorization. However, there are a few things that you need for this class that are just better learned by memorizing them. By the first day of class you need to have the polyatomic ions and their charges, diatomic elements, strong acids, strong bases, and metric prefixes memorized. All this can be found in the tables below Polyatomic Ions Ammonium NH4 1+ Hypobromite BrO 1- Acetate CH3COO 1- or C2H3O2 1- Hypochlorite ClO 1- Arsenate AsO4 3- Hypoiodite IO 1- Bicarbonate (hydrogen carbonate) Bisulfate (hydrogen sulfate) HCO3 1- Iodate IO3 1- HSO4 1- Iodite IO2 1- Bisulfide HS 1- Nitrate NO3 1- Bisulfite (hydrogen sulfite) HSO3 1- Nitrite NO2 1- Bromate BrO3 1- Oxalate C2O4 2- Bromite BrO2 1- Perchlorate ClO4 1-
