1 Issue # CHEMICAL MEDIA TABLE OF CONTENS: IN THIS ISSUE Chemissorban - Media CP Blend - Media Odorcarb Ultra Media Chemisorbant media is engineered to provide an enhanced oxidation potential, generating 99.5% initial removal efficiency in Purafil systems. Odormix - SP - Media 50:50 volume blend of Chemisorbant and Purakol. Chemisorbant media is impregnated with potassium permanganate to provide optimum adsorption, absorption and oxidation of a wide variety of gaseous contaminants. Puracarb - Media Highly effective at removing 0.30 grams (g) of odorous hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) per cubic centimeter (cc) of media. IAQ - Media Odormix SP is a chemical media. It eliminates a broad range of odors and is often used in the final or polishing stage of filtration. Designed for neutralization of chlorine, hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide, this media is manufactured specifically for the corrosive environments and consists of generally spherical, porous pellets. IAQ Media consists of extruded cylindrical, porous pellets formed from a high quality virgin activated carbon.
2 2 PRODUCT BULLETIN FOR - PURAFIL CHEMISORBANT MEDIA - Purafil Chemisorbant Media consists of generally spherical, porous pellets formed from a combination of activated alumina and other binders, suitably impregnated with potassium permanganate (KMnO4). The potassium permanganate is applied during pellet formation such that it is uniformly distributed throughout the pellet volume and is completely available for reaction with target gases. Purafil Chemisorbant Media has been specially engineered to provide an enhanced oxidation potential thus assuring the highest overall performance. The chemisorptive process removes contaminant gases by means of adsorption, absorption, and chemical reaction (oxidation). Harmful gases are trapped within the pellet and converted into harmless solids which remain in the pellet, eliminating the possibility of desorption and release back into the environment. Purafil Chemisorbant Media demonstrates a higher working capacity for broad-spectrum contaminant control in applications where there are undefined sources such as: outdoor air cleaning, general odor control, and off-gassing from building materials and office furnishings. This media is often used with Purakol media to provide broad-spectrum contaminant control. Purafil Chemisorbant media provides the following minimum removal capacities: Each lot of Purafil Chemisorbant media is thoroughly tested prior to shipment according to the procedures described in Purafil s ISO 9001 Quality Systems Manual. This testing includes but is not limited to: bulk density, potassium permanganate content, moisture content, crush strength, and abrasion. Media Life Analysis Samples of Purafil Chemisorbant media should be sent on a regular basis to the Purafil laboratories for testing to determine remaining media life. This provides for scheduled maintenance, avoids downtime, and assures ongoing protection for processes, products, and personnel. Purafil Chemisorbant media should be disposed of according to local, state, and federal guidelines. Purafil Chemisorbant media is UL 900 classified for flammability.
3 3 PRODUCT BULLETIN FOR - PURAFIL CP BLEND MEDIA - Purafil CP Blend Media is made from an equal mix (by volume) of Purafil Chemisorbant and Purakol media. Purafil Chemisorbant media is generally spherical, porous pellets formed from a combination of activated alumina and other binders, suitably impregnated with potassium permanganate (KMnO4). The sodium permanganate is applied during pellet formation such that it is uniformly distributed throughout the pellet volume and is completely available for reaction with target gases. Purakol media consists of extruded cylindrical, porous pellets formed from a premium virgin activated carbon. No binders are used allowing the carbon completely available for adsorption of target gases. Purafil CP Blend Media has been specially engineered to provide the highest overall performance against multiple contaminants. Purafil Chemisorbant removes contaminant gases by chemisorption using adsorption, absorption, and chemical reaction (oxidation). Harmful gases are trapped within the pellet and converted into harmless solids which remain in the pellet, eliminating the possibility of desorption and release back into the environment. Purakol media removes contaminant gases with high efficiencies and capacities by means of physical adsorption (physisorption). It is very effective against medium-to-high molecular weight compounds, and chemical contaminants with low volatility. Purafil CP Blend Media demonstrates a higher working capacity for broad-spectrum control of odorous and corrosive gases including hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), oxides of sulfur, formaldehyde, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen sulfide, and lower molecular weight aldehydes and organic acids. Purafil CP Blend media can be used when space within a Purafil chemical filtration system is limited but these two individual media are indicated; combining two stages of filtration into one. Purafil CP Blend is also recommended as a polishing media in odor control and corrosion control applications. Purafil CP Blend media provides the following minimum removal capacities: Each lot of Purafil Chemisorbant and Purakol media used in Purafil CP Blend media is thoroughly tested prior to shipment according to the procedures described in Purafil s ISO 9001 Quality Systems Manual. Media Life Analysis Samples of Purafil CP Blend media should be sent on a regular basis to the Purafil laboratories for testing to determine remaining media life. This provides for scheduled maintenance, avoids downtime, and assures ongoing protection for processes, products, and personnel. Purafil CP Blend media should be disposed of according to local, state, and federal guidelines. Purafil CP Blend media is UL classified for flammability.
4 4 PRODUCT BULLETIN FOR - PURAFIL ODORCARB ULTRA MEDIA - OdorcarbTM Ultra Media consists of generally spherical, porous pellets formed from a combination of activated carbon, activated alumina and other binders, suitably impregnated to provide a superior removal capacity for hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Impregnants are applied during pellet formation such that they are uniformly distributed throughout the pellet volume and are completely available for reaction with hydrogen sulfide. Odorcarb Ultra Media has been specially engineered with an extremely high reserve alkalinity. This provides the maximum neutralization potential available and assures the highest overall performance. The chemisorptive process removes contaminant gases by means of adsorption, absorption, and chemical reaction (neutralization). Harmful gases are trapped within the pellet and converted into harmless solids which remain in the pellet, eliminating the possibility of desorption and release back into the environment. Odorcarb Ultra Media demonstrates an extremely high working capacity for H2S making it the preferred media for odor control in wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, wet wells, lift stations, and sludge holding tanks. Odorcarb Ultra media provides the following minimum removal capacities: Each lot of Odorcarb Ultra media is thoroughly tested prior to shipment according to the procedures described in Purafil s ISO 9001 Quality Systems Manual. This testing includes but is not limited to: bulk density, impregnation level, moisture content, crush strength, and abrasion. Media Life Analysis Odorcarb Ultra media contains Media Life Indicator Pellets (patent-pending) which offer a visual indication of media performance, changing from blue to white when the media is spent. At this point samples of Odorcarb Ultra media should be sent to the Purafil laboratories for testing to verify remaining media life. This provides for scheduled maintenance, avoids downtime, and assures ongoing protection for processes, products, and personnel. Odorcarb Ultra media is non-toxic and non-hazardous as supplied. However, in all cases spent Odorcarb Ultra media should be disposed of according to local, state, and federal guidelines. Odorcarb Ultra media is UL classified for flammability.
