Support your answer with one example each. 7. You are provided with (a) Iron Nails (b) CuSO4 solution (c) BaCl2 (d) Cu powder (e) Ferrous sulphate crystal (f) Quick lime. Make five reactions that can take place from these materials. 8. (a) Write one equation each for decomposition reactions where energy is supplied in the form of heat, light or electricity. (b) What does one mean by exothermic and endothermic reactions? Give examples. 9. (a) A student has mixed the solutions of lead (II) nitrate and potassium iodide. i. What was the color of the precipitate formed? Can you name the compound precipitated? ii. Write the balanced chemical equation for this reaction. iii. What type of reaction is it?
3 (b) An aqueous solution of metal nitrate P reacts with sodium bromide solution to form yellow precipitate of compound Q which is used in photography. Q on exposure to sunlight undergoes decomposition reaction to form metal present in P along with reddish brown gas. Identify P & Q. Write the chemical reaction & type of chemical reaction. 10. Why parents are advised to discourage their children to eat chips and junk food? Provide at least five reasons. 11. (a) Why does an aqueous solution of acid conduct electricity? (b) How does the concentration of hydrogen ions change when the solution of an acid is diluted with water? (c) Which has higher ph? A concentrated or dilute solution of HCl. (d) What would you observe on adding dil. HCl acid to i. Sodium bicarbonate placed in a test tube. ii. Zinc metal in a test tube. 12. (a) A substance X is used in the kitchen for making tasty crispy pakoras and is also an ingredient of antacid. Name the substance X. i. How does X help to make cakes and bread soft and spongy? ii. Is the ph value of solution of X lesser than or greater than 7.0? (b) When CO2 gas is passed through saturated solution of ammoniacal brine, two compounds X and Y are formed. Y is used as antacid and decomposes to form another solid Z. Identify X, Y, Z and write chemical equations. 13. (a) The ph of rain water collected from two cities A and B was found to be 6 and 5 respectively. Water of which city is more acidic? Find out the ratio of hydrogen ion concentration in the two samples of rain water? (b) Arrange the following in order (ascending) of their ph values. NaOH solution, Blood, lemon Juice. 14. (a) A compound X is bitter in taste. It is a component of washing powder & reacts with dil. HCl to produce brisk effervescence due to colorless, odorless gas Y which turns lime water milky due to formation of Z. When excess of Y is passed, milkiness disappears due to formation of P. Identify X. Y. Z and P. (b) Compound Q forms enamel of teeth. It is the hardest substance in the body. It does not dissolve in water but it is corroded when ph in the mouth is below 5.5. Identify Q and state whether it is acidic or basic in nature? How does tooth paste prevent dental decay? Brushing our teeth twice a day is a well-known saying. Justify this statement. 15. Farmers are using a large number of pesticides and fertilizers in their fields to increase crop production and to enhance their profits. But by doing so they are causing damage to the soil as well as to the environment. Do you agree with this statement? Why should we avoid eating fruits and vegetables without washing them properly? 16. Hydrogen gas is evolved by the reaction of a piece of magnesium ribbon with water: (a) Describe how it could be shown that the gas collected is hydrogen. (b) Write a chemical equation for the reaction taking place between magnesium and water using symbols. (c) Suggest how the appearance of magnesium would change after a week. (d) A few drops of universal indicator solution were added to water in the beaker. What color would expect to see and what ph would this color indicate?
4 SST SOCIAL SCIENCE PROJECT The project work in Social Science entails the following requirements- 1. The total length of the project report will not be more than written pages of foolscap size (A 4 size). 2. The project report will be handwritten and credit will be awarded to original illustrations, drawings and creative use of materials. 3. The project report will be presented in a neatly bound simple folder. 4. Cover page must show title, student information, school and year. 5. List of Contents with page numbers. 6. Acknowledgements (acknowledging the institution, offices and libraries visited and persons who have helped). 7. Project Overview- Purpose, Aim, Methodology and experiences while doing the project. 8. Chapters with relevant headings. 9. Summary and Conclusions based on findings. 10. Bibliography- Should have the title, pages referred, author, publisher, year of publication and if a website, the name of the website with the specific website link which has been used. 11. Cheques were paid into the bank in March but were credited in April: P 3,500 Q -- 2,500 R 2, Cheques issued in March were presented in April: X 4,000 ; Q 4, Cheques for 1000 received from a customer entered in the cash book but was not banked. 4. Pass book shows a debit of 1000 for bank charges and credit of 2000 as interest. 5. Interest on investment 2,500 collected by the bank appeared in the Pass Book. Prepare Bank Reconciliation Statement Showing the balance as per Pass Book on 31 st March, Ques.4) On 31 st March, 2015, Cash Book of a merchant showed bank overdraft of 1,72,985. On comparing the cash book with bank statement, following discrepancies were noted: 1. Cheques issued for 60,000 were not presented in the bank till 7 th April, Cheques amounting to 75,000 were deposited in the bank but were not collected. 3. A cheques of 15,000 received from Mahesh Chand and deposited in the bank was dishonoured but the non-payment advice was not received from the bank till 1 st April ,50,000 being he proceeds of a bill receivable collected appeared in the pass book but not in the cash book. 5. Bank Charges 1,500 and interest on overdraft 8,500 appeared in the pass book but not in the cash Book. Prepare Bank Reconciliation Statement and show what balance the Bank pass Book but not in the Cash Book. Kindly put all the subject holiday homework in the column given above.
