1 THE VARNER GROUP SUPPLIER REQUIREMENTS MANUAL Part III. CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES Version The Varner Group Supplier Requirements Manual Part III, Chemical Substances; concern the environment, working conditions and safe handling of chemicals during production and to be able to offer our customers products without harmful chemicals. The list of restricted substances applies to all our suppliers and their sub-contractors. All suppliers of raw materials, ginning mills, spinning mills, knitting and weaving mills, laundries, tanneries, dye houses, printing facilities or garment factories must follow our requirements.

4 3.1 Safe handling of chemical substances List of Chemicals All suppliers to the Varner Group must keep record of all chemical substances used in production and all associated processes. This list shall include name of the chemical product, the purpose/area of use and a reference to a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Suppliers can and will be asked to submit this list to CSR or an accredited auditor for inspection. Written Policy Suppliers shall have a written procedure for the procurement, storage, handling and use of chemicals. This must include guidelines on safe handling and use, with specific emphasis on hazardous chemicals. In addition a qualified person in charge will be appointed the responsibility to implement measures in accordance with these requirements. Competence and Training Employees that procure, store, handle and use chemicals must have the right knowledge and be sufficiently trained for this task. This is of the responsibility of supplier and records from training shall be kept. Storage Chemical storage areas require specific design and equipment such as construction materials, lighting, ventilation and fire extinguishers. Storage of liquid chemicals shall be free of drainage holes and protected by sills. Storage area must include first aid kits and eyewash equipment. Additional requirements apply to chemicals that are classified as flammable or combustible liquids. Hazardous Waste Disposal Suppliers shall have a policy for disposing hazardous waste materials. Hazardous waste must not be allowed to accumulate in nature. The collection of hazardous waste must be arranged through certified firms. The frequency of collection is dependent upon the type and amount of waste generated. Suppliers shall keep a record of all waste collections. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL MATERIAL REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) Products produced to the Varner Group can not contain more than 1000 mg/ kg of substances on the SVHC list. If substances are stated both in the Varner Group RSL and in the SVHC list, the Varner Group requirements should be followed. PBT, vpvb, CMR or ED Substances defined as persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT), very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vpvb), carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction (CMR), endocrine disruptors (ED) or equivalent concern can not exceed 1000 mg/kg in a product. If a specific substance is stated both in the Varner Group RSL and as PBT, vpvb, CMR or ED, the Varner Group requirements must be followed. 1 1 Laws and regulations of countries that products will be sold at must be followed. 5 3.2 List of restricted substances Table 1 provides a quick review of the major restricted substances and the risk level associated with each substance for different materials. Table 2 & 3 are extensive lists. Those lists show restricted substances and the maximum concentrations. DEFINITIONS IN TABLE 2 & 3 CAS No - For every substance, the list states the identification number (CAS No) according to Chemical Abstract Services ++ - The ++ sign shows that names and CAS number for each substance in this group are specified in Appendix Is stated instead of CAS number, the substance has several substances and CAS numbers covered by the specification. Detection Limit Detection Limit is defined as the lowest possible value that can be found during testing with a specific test method. Whenever test methods have been revised and the detection limit has been changed, the new detection limit must be followed. Not Detected Substance stated with Not Detected as a requirement can not be found above the Detection Limit given for the specific test method. Banned When a substance is defined as Banned this means that the substance can not be used during production. Those substances can not be present in the product over the Detection Limit. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UNITS USED BY LABORATORIES 1000 mg/kg equals 1000 ppm (parts per million) SYMBOLS > - Greater than - Greater than or equal to < - Less than - Less than or equal to µg/kg (microgram per kilogram) 0,1 % (by weight) x µg/m2 x depends on the thickness of the fabric (kg/m2) x µg/m2/week x is a measure of the release of a substance from a surface, and is only partially dependent on the concentration of the substance Supplier Requirements Manual version Copyright CSR, The Varner Group, Norway
