3 Introduction This booklet is aimed to help you successfully plan, practise and carry out your revision programme in preparation for your Science exams. Remember, many of the skills in this booklet are transferable and will also help you with your other subjects. Take your time to read the information carefully and complete the activities. They are there to help you get the most from your revision. The first section in this booklet includes all the relevant information you need to know about your science exam papers, including what will be tested on each paper, when they are and how long they are. There is also a topic checklist for you to traffic light (red I don t know this topic at all; amber I know some of this topic; green I know this topic quite well) to help focus your revision. There is also a list of common formulae (in triangles), units, a data sheet and periodic table that is used in the chemistry paper. All students have been issued with a revision guide at the appropriate tier of entry. This should be used as a useful revision tool. We hope you find this booklet useful and wish you luck in your revision planning and exams!

4 SECTION ONE When are my exams? What will they test? Each exam for Additional Science will last 60 minutes. It is made up from a series of structured questions designed to test your understanding of the syllabus content. The areas that will be tested in each paper are listed beneath each one. Knowing what areas will be tested will help you to plan your revision more effectively. Biology 2 Friday 9th June 2017 (am) What are animals and plants built from? ow do dissolved substances get into and out of cells? ow do plants obtain the food they need to live and grow? What happens to energy and biomass at each stage in a food chain? What happens to the waste material produced by plants and animals? What are enzymes and what are some of their functions? ow do our bodies keep internal conditions constant? Which human characteristics show a simple pattern of inheritance? Chemistry 2 Wednesday 14 th June 2017 (am) ow do sub-atomic particles help us to understand the structure of substances? ow do structures influence the properties and uses of substances? ow much can we make and how much do we need to use? ow can we control the rates of chemical reactions? Do chemical reactions always release energy? ow can we use ions in solutions? Physics 2 Friday 16 th June 2017 (am) ow can we describe the ways things move? ow do we make things speed up or slow down? What happens to movement energy when things speed up or slow down? What is momentum? What is static electricity, how can it be used and what is the connection between static electricity and electric currents? What does the current through an electrical circuit depend on? What is mains electricity and how can it be used safely? Why do we need to know the power of electrical appliances? What are nuclear fission and fusion?

5 Each Paper will also have questions on ow Science Works. Revision videos/materials There are links here to various online resources that may be useful. Some video clips that are linked to the AQA syllabus. There are lots of different clips on youtube that cover different parts of the syllabus. Use the search facility on youtube to help find them.
