1 Fatemeh Khalkhal Dept. Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering University of California, Berkeley 93 Tan Hall, Berkeley, CA, Tel: (510) fatemeh(dot)khalkhal(at)berkeley(dot)edu Education Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal Montreal, QC, Canada Ph.D., Chemical Engineering (GPA: 4.0/4.0) M.A.Sc., Chemical and Petroleum Engineering (GPA: 17.16/20.0) B.Sc. (Honours), Chemical Engineering (GPA: 16.26/20.0) Expertise Strong background in physics of soft condensed matter, colloid science, rheology and non-newtonian complex fluid mechanics. Hands-on experience in materials characterization techniques including Rheometry, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis spectroscopy, Small angle light scattering (SALS), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Rheooptical and Optical microscopy. Research Experience University of California, Berkeley Jan present Postdoctoral associate Berkeley, CA Investigated the individual dynamics and collective interactions of vesicles as drug delivery agents in microfluidics. Developed new techniques for fabrication of monodisperse vesicles. Analyzed the flow behavior of complex fluids in microfluidics at various flow conditions. Yale University Dec Dec Postdoctoral associate New Haven, CT Studied and elucidated basic structure-property relationships in colloidal suspensions.
2 Performed a set of bench experiments to simulate engine tests with high fidelity. Developed a fundamental study to understand the efficacy of dispersants under various conditions. Investigated dynamics of surfactant stabilized lubricating oils at room and elevated temperatures. Developed robust adsorption isotherms to evaluate the performance of various surfactants by FTIR spectroscopy. Performed FTIR spectral analysis on different oil-based and aqueous solutions. Analyzed the microstructure of surfactant stabilized attractive colloidal gels by combining rheology and adsorption isotherms. Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal Montreal, QC, Canada Research assistant: characterization of flow-induced structures in model carbon nanotube suspensions Proposed a set of resolute (mainly rheological) experiments to characterize the effect of flow history on micro structural evolution of suspensions quantitatively Elaborated the mechanisms of structure formation during flow and in quiescent. Evaluated the kinetics of structure build-up under the influence of flow history, concentration and temperature. Investigated the nature of the suspensions network structure in the light of scaling and fractal theories. Introduced a new parameter that well represents the elastic properties of shear-induced (metastable) structures. Quantified a critical shear rate as the upper limit of pre-shearing to avoid structure breakdown at low and intermediate concentrations. Evaluated the performance of structural models in predicting the transient behavior of carbon nanotube suspensions. Teaching Experience Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal Montreal, QC, Canada Jan Jan Private tutor in Fluid Mechanics, Transport Phenomena and Partial Differential Equations Iran, UAE, Oman, Qatar May Dec Technical support and business development engineer Developed and conducted technical workshops for an internationally diversified professionals in oil and gas industries in the areas of Production Data
