Out of 25,730 samples collected, 5.1% units were Salmonella-positive, which is higher compared to the monitoring results for Salmonella on pig carcases based on sampling investigations by the Competent Authority. However, these results are based on the reports of only few MS and may not be representative yet for the EU. 10
11 TARGET SALMONELLA SEROVARS IN POULTRY, EU, Since the implementation of the National Salmonella Control Programs since many years, a statistically significant declining trend in the EU-level prevalence of Salmonella target serovars-positive flocks was observed for all categories with the exception of breeding turkey flocks 11
12 SALMONELLA IN POULTRY, EU, 2015 Breeding flocks: BG and PL did not meet the Salmonella reduction target and the EU prevalence for the five target serovars was 0.34% (Salmonella spp. 1.42%). Flocks of laying hens: PL did not meet the relative Salmonella reduction target. The EU prevalence for the two target serovars (S. Enteritidis and S. Typhimurium) was 1.0% (Salmonella spp. 2.7%). Broiler flocks: LU and CZ did not meet the Salmonella reduction target before slaughter. The EU prevalence for the two target serovars was 0.26% (Salmonella spp. 2.2%). Turkey breeding flocks: all 14 MS which reported data, met the target, with an overall prevalence of 0.4% for the two target serovars (Salmonella spp. 1.41%). Fattening turkey flocks: BE and GR did not meet the Salmonella reduction target before slaughter. At the EU level, 0.34% of the fattening turkey flocks were infected with the two target serovars (Salmonella spp. 3.6%). 12

19 FBO BY CAUSATIVE AGENT, The total number of Salmonella outbreaks within the EU decreased by 40.6% between 2010 (1,604 food-borne outbreaks) and 2015 (953 outbreaks). 19
20 SALMONELLA FBO In 2015, 23 MS reported a total of 953 food-borne outbreaks caused by Salmonella, representing 21.8% of all outbreaks. Overall, the outbreaks involved 6,616 cases, 1,719 hospitalisations and 3 deaths (in 3 different weakevidence outbreaks). In total, 18 MS reported 184 Salmonella outbreaks with strong-evidence (19.3% of all Salmonella FBOs). 20
