For example, the Romans observed that the number of paces around the outer portion of their circular temples was about three times the number of paces through the center. In mathematics, the Greek letter (pronounced pi ) is used to represent this ratio. There is no fraction of integers that represents the exact ratio of the circumference to the diameter, or.
