1 Tom Lescher New Paradigm Astrology - Learn Astrology Webinar 5, September 29, 2012 Thank you all for coming. I sent out an example chart, and I hope you have had a chance to print out and look at that chart. We ll be looking at it a little later on when we get to retrogrades. I also have some other questions that I ll be dealing with. During the last webinar we came in, starting with Pluto, giving you a kernel, a seed, a sense of what these planets are about, what they are like. Something, I hope, will sprout and grow through practice, experience, observation and correlation of your own. We started with Pluto, and we did Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter. We made it through five. Today we ve got Mars, Venus, Mercury, Sun and Moon, and I would like to get into the Moon s Nodes and of course Lilith and Chiron. We have a lot to do! Mars Mars/Aries is the warrior. Mars is like our God. We all have this masculine and feminine, we are all Gods and Goddesses. So this Mars energy is the Yang, outward, striving. We talked about Aries. Mars is the ruler of Aries, and this is the drive, Yang, radiating energy. The I-Ching calls it the creative principle. It is desire, passion, spontaneous, instinctive, will force; hunger. It just is. Mars just is. I just am. I m hungry. Mars is this instinctive impulse.aries coming out of Pisces, it is the lower octave of Pluto. As such, we know that we have a soul because we have desire. Mars is the conscious manifestation of the unconscious soul intention or soul desire. This is our instinctive, spontaneous, impulsive, compulsive desire to exist, to be, to expand, to penetrate, to influence, to assert ourselves out into the environment. It creates evolution. That is our evolution. It s the lower octave of Pluto because it is through this penetration into the new and the unknown that is like a birth. It s the beginning. We come to this planet, and this action, this outward going, this penetration creates waves, creates reactions. Every action creates a reaction. It s like, Ok, we re down here on planet Earth, we re going to learn through polarized reality. So when I put something out there, something s going to come back. The laws of Karma, the laws of cause and effect, however you want to look at it. Mars is - we are spiritual beings in animal bodies. Part of our evolution is through these bodies, and when we come into this planet, dimension, bodies, we have 3D laws to deal with. There s gravity, law of attraction

2 (everybody knows that one now!) There s the law of Karma. I hope everybody knows that one. If not, you re probably making a whole bunch of it. (*laughing) As such, these bodies want. There s hunger, the sexual instinct, these drives; animal, spontaneous, instinctive desires and needs that arise without conscious intention, without forethought, without planning. There s a magnetic attraction. There s a pull here, a repulsion there. Go! Get away from me! Get back! Get down! I need to run! It s the fight or flight. Mars is associated with the adrenal glands. It s also associated with heat. Dogs go into heat. We get fevers, blisters. Mars has to do with swords, knives, scalpels, cuts. Chop, over, done, gone, Kali, Dhurga, Shiva. Mars in Your Chart Where Mars is in our chart is where we are acting, it illustrates how we act. It reflects the aspect of ourselves that is becoming. It is our leading edge. Jeffrey Green goes into a lot of this in his book Pluto Volume II. He also discusses the Mars and Venus polarity points. When we get into chart interpretation, we ll get into the Pluto polarity point, the Mars polarity point, and the Venus polarity point, as well as the Moon s Nodes. Balancing Mars With the Polarity Point So we are this God. This is what we put out, and the more we become aware of this, the more we evolve through the polarity point. So if you have Mars in Aries, this powerful, strong God that is instinctive, impulsive and somewhat unconscious and just goes, and starts, pioneers, very strong, self-oriented. The evolution will be through combining/balancing that with the Mars polarity point in Libra. Learning how to cooperate, compromise, listen, bring in the partner with all of my new projects. So there is this whole balancing of the axis with the Mars, Venus, Pluto and the Moon s Nodes. Of course, that brings in the law of the trinity. That you are in one place, and then when you balance it, realize it and see it through the polarization process, it creates a third point of awareness. We can look at that third point of awareness, I don t want to say Aquarius because I don t want to give them a big head or anything, but it is that above point of non-attachment that gives you an overall view of understanding and comprehension of what s going on.

3 Mars in Pisces The psycho-spiritual function of Mars is to act, assert, penetrate, cut, take, charge into, radiate out into the outside world. That is our Mars function. The sign then is the filter. That is how that happens. So Mars in Pisces, being a water sign, is going to assert itself, charge out into the environment through painting, poetry, music, and dance. It s the artist, the musician, the person who is going to get up on stage. I m going to radiate love, beauty, harmony, and music. Mars is this instinctive I/me/myself. Mars in Pisces - Is there a strong I/me/my sense of separation and fire? I don t think so. This is a sensitive soul, not that aggressive. Not that assertive in any way, shape or form. In fact, sometimes could go into victimization because it s like, Well, I don t really know what I want. I m not really acting physically in this world. There are people with other Mars placements like Cancer, Capricorn, or Aries that are very clear what they want. With all of these planets there is another thing to take into account. Depending upon the evolutionary stage of the soul the planets will function differently. Jeffrey Green talks about this a little bit in Pluto Volume I. It can be expounded upon extensively. We could give at least a whole webinar on the evolutionary stages. You can download the recording off my website It goes into the consensus, the individuated and spiritual stages of evolutionl. Mars in each one of these stages is also going to be acting in a different way. I ll do a webinar on the evolutionary stages in the next course. So I m not going to take Mars through all the sings. There is another recording that you can download that takes Mars through all the signs - so let s go on to Venus. Venus Venus is the Goddess within, the feminine. Of course women have this Goddess within and without. I didn t even say with Mars that very often in a woman s chart, due to our culture, society, civilization, women will often take their Mars, if they haven t done their inner sacred marriage work, and project it outside themselves. Then Mars will come to them in the form of men. The same and vice-versa with men. Men can take their Venus, and if they haven t done

4 their inner marriage work they will project it I m a guy! Don t call me a femme! I m not a wuss! They are not in touch with their Venus because we all have this feminine side. We all have a Goddess, and very often men will be, I m Mars. I ve got Mars in Gemini. I m do-dodoing. I ve got Venus in Capricorn, and it s the women who are so controlling and tell you what to do. And I just want to have fun and fool around and type on my computer and ride on my motorcycle. Gemini rules motorcycles the twins have everything in two. The Dual Function of Venus So you see, there can be this projection, but one way or the other we are both. Let s look at the Venus function. Venus has a dual function. We know that it has rulership over Taurus and Libra, so there is an inner Venus reality and an outer Venus reality. I like the idea that Venus is the way, or manner in which the soul connects to the body. It has to do with our inner relationship to our self. This is the Taurus side of Venus. My relationship to myself determines the Libra side of Venus, what types of relationships and partnerships I attract to myself. So this is the inner and outer. Outer is a reflection of the inner. We are in 3 rd dimensional polarized reality and that s how we are evolving. So this Venus energy is the Goddess energy of our inner relationship to ourselves. As the ruler of Taurus, Venus has to do with our values. That s the core, bottom root. What I value determines my sense of what is worth what. My values determine my possessions, what I gather, what I have. As the ruler of Taurus, it has to do with the survival of my physical body, procreation, survival of the species. My body is my first possession. It s what I value. It helps my spirit to survive within this physical plane. So my body and possessions and my ability to attract are all aspects of the Venus function. This is the Taurus side of Venus; my relationship to myself. Then the Libra side of it is what I attract into my world through relationship. Venus is the lower octave Neptune. I really associate Neptune with the heart, unbounded love, unconditional love, opening of the heart, and Venus being the lower octave of Neptune, Mercury is the lower octave of Uranus. We ll get to that. So Venus is this love. I have to put it in quotes because you know the Eskimos have 26 different words for snow. And it s absolutely phenomenal that we have this word love. I think there should be a thousand different words to describe the many ways in which we love and are loved

5 instead of one. But we re going to say Venus is love, and this is attraction. It has to do with being able to receive, bond, connect by loving ourselves, and of course, connect with other people. Venus in a Masculine Sign Venus, our Goddess self, through the different signs is going to love very differently, feel very differently, and attract very differently. Let s look at Venus in a masculine sign. Fire and air are masculine signs. Venus is a feminine planet. Let s put that Venus in Leo. How does Venus in Leo feel about itself? Here s this Venus function; it s very self-oriented, very much about the Queen. Think of Cleopatra. Think of those Chinese movies with the parade that s like 10,000 miles long, and they are carrying the Queen or the Princess. It s this feeling that, I am special, I am important, I am dignified, I attract abundance and fullness. So the core nature of this Venus in Leo is to attract through displaying itself, in a sense radiating. Leo is ruled by the Sun. I emanate out into my environment, my greatness, splendor, and glory, I shine, and through that I bring relationship to me. This is how I receive. It can be easier for Venus in Leo to give than it is to receive. I found that the more generous I am to everybody, the more that I give, the more they love and appreciate me and smile. It s not giving to get, but there is this putting out way of receiving if you see the world as a mirror. Then we can see the polarity point of Aquarius. Venus in Leo evolves through the polarity point of Aquarius, which is non-attachment. Not being so egocentric, narcissistic; not so about me, but moving into this place of the community, astrology, the global perspective, the whole, big, larger picture of things. Venus in Leo wants to be the star of the stage. The polarity point of Aquarius is: even the star on the stage has a director. Aquarius is the director, the producer. Yes, you re special and everyone else is special, so get over yourself! (*laughing) Non-attach from this place of being at the top of the pyramid, and come into Aquarius my little Venus! Venus in a Feminine Sign Now you put Venus in a feminine sign. Let s put Venus in Virgo. Virgo is feminine, it s earth, and there is going to be much more of a grounded, inner world, inner reality, inner perception. It s not going to be this radiating outward. There will be a composed, maybe a little more introverted, self-composed, self-critical, wanting to perfect the self. Making the body perfect,

6 having an eye for art, beauty, going into nutrition and healing, all this is the Goddess within that wants to be integrated. Through that, there can be a lot of self-criticism, lack, what I m missing, what s lacking. What happens with Venus in Virgo?. They attract critical partners. Venus in Leo can attract some big, strong, heavy-duty characters that are Kings. Look out for the Kings! Venus in Virgo can attract critical, perfectionist, very grounded and earthly, perhaps a little serious type of partners and relationships, or sober conditions are created within the relationship. Of course that Virgo is going to evolve into becoming a little more aware of the Pisces polarity; surrendering, releasing, letting go, having faith, trusting in spirit, and opening the heart space, not so much in the head and needing to be perfect before I can love. Just love. Mercury Mercury is the thought function. It s the left brain, ruler of both Gemini and Virgo. It is how we navigate, think, communicate, process our information, environment, how we connect, and rules the fingers and the hands. It is how we connect to our immediate environment right here and now. Venus is more to do with listening and hearing. Hearing inwardly, listening to ourselves. Mercury is the two-way communication. But it has a lot to do with speaking and sharing through our logical, rational mind and thought processes. It s simple but complex. Super important, and we ll get into a Mercury retrograde to talk about later. In the different signs, it s not so much of a polarity point with Mercury. Mercury is just what you re interested in and how you communicate. Mercury in Capricorn Let s look at Mercury in Capricorn. I m a deep thinker, I m serious, I m precautious, I m thorough, I m complete. I speak with integrity. When I talk, I want people to listen. I m an authority. The other side of it is, as a child, there may have been feelings of self-consciousness; maybe a stuttering problem or speaking issues. It s taking me many years because maybe I m a slow thinker, I m thorough, I m deep and it s hard to bring all that deep reflection to the surface and out my mouth. I may be slow to read, to write in the lower grades. Saturn in the 3 rd house, Gemini, Mercury/Saturn contacts, Mercury in the 10 th house, Mercury in Capricorn, all these different combinations. I don t want to confuse you, this is a beginning class. (*laughing) But

7 that s Mercury in Capricorn, that s the way it is. It s going to communicate and learn. It is how I learn and how I put out what I know. Mercury in Libra Mercury in Libra is an air sign. It s very pleasant. How are you? Nice to see you. It s a very good manager. It s got that Venus quality, it is light. Mercury and Libra are air signs. They like to talk and socialize; really interact a lot with the environment. Also interested in what other people say, expect, want, and demand. It s really going to be able to put itself in other people s shoes, be the devil s advocate, maybe jumping on the other side of the fence. Libra can be more contrary than practically any other sign. As soon as you say something, Mercury in Libra will say, Well you know what? Did you think about this? It does come out of Virgo, so there is this other capacity, this Mercury in Libra can be extreme, extremist, a real talker. I m going on the other side of the fence, desire to not confront, and not tip the apple cart. I m going to pay attention and listen to my surroundings, to what other people are saying, what other people want. So this Mercury in Libra is also very intelligent. Mercury is our intelligence, and that s very highly valued in our society. This left-brained intelligence is modified shall we say when Mercury is in Scorpio, Pisces, or Cancer, the water signs that think emotionally and desire emotional connection over pure rhetoric. This is scary to a lot of Westerners. They like the Venus in air. Let s be logical, rational, get to the bottom line. Let s be clear! Well, life isn t clear, and life isn t just fire, earth, air or water. It s all four elements, so this is what astrology does. It helps you to value all the different ways of looking at things, particularly with Mercury. Mercury looks at, from its perspective, everything differently. 12 different angles, manifestations, purposes to every single thing/event that happens. The Sun Let s go from Mercury to the Sun. The Sun is the center of the solar system. The Sun is the center of our consciousness, center of our power, it is what we radiate out into the world. It is our creative potential, our creative self. It s interesting when we look at aspects to planets, we always look at the faster moving planet moving away from the slower moving planet for our aspects. When it comes to the Sun, it is the center. So it is always the slowest, even if you re looking at aspects to Pluto, you look at Pluto in relationship to where it has been moving around the Sun.

8 This Sun energy that we have in the sign that the Sun occupies is how we ve chosen, in this incarnation, to completely create something new, express a new expression of humankind, human nature, out into the world. The Sun shines its light on everyone unconditionally. It is the I am and I create. Creation is being the mini God or Goddess. So it is the ruler of the 5 th house, ruler of Leo, RE-creation and it s the Sun that radiates out. It s also associated with the father in the horoscope. It s our experience of this hopefully unconditional, shining, radiating of light, power, strength of life. We are, each one of us, ambassadors of life. What we do we give life to. So the Sun in the horoscope is like the gasoline, the fuel that fuels the whole chart. When you are being your Sun sign, creating through that medium, expressing your creative potential, the whole rest of the chart lights up, is fed and is charged. Do your Sun sign! Be your Sun sign! The Importance of the Sun Sign in Different Cultures In America, the Sun sign is a very powerful. It s looked at as being our power. I know that in other cultures, such as South America, they ask your astrology sign and people say where Venus was. In Israel you ask the sign and they will give the Moon sign. Different cultures at different time periods have different ways of working with the stars and astrology. I tend to downplay and diminish Sun sign astrology a little just because it s so overblown. But I don t want to neglect it! It s almost challenging to define. It s like the Sun is infinite power. It s your infinite capacity, and so it s very difficult to put it in a box. It s this powerful fuel that charges forth through everything. The Moon We ve talked about the Moon before. The Moon has to do with our past, the PhD that we come in with. It is our inner world, our inner dimension. We have the two luminaries: the Sun and the Moon. These are different than Mars and Venus. The Sun and the Moon are not masculine and feminine. They are the luminaries, and they are beyond masculine and feminine. The Moon is this inner reflective self, and that inner reflective self is your character. It does have to do with Mom. So the Sun can be Dad and the Moon is the Mom. These are our overwhelmingly strong, powerful reflections of our inner balance of the light and the dark. The I-Ching calls the Yang/Sun the creative and the Yin/Moon the receptive. The Moon is the chalice, the vessel, the Gaia that holds and supports the Sun.

9 So this Moon, Gaia, the Earth, the inner world, is the subconscious. The Sun has more to do with our conscious, creative outpouring into the world. I am, I create, I need, I inspire, I bring life. The Moon is the inner, feeling, subconscious, ever-changing, ever-feeling, drawing in and receiving the subtle vibrations, the connections. It s the spider web reaching out in all directions, on all levels, on all planes. It reaches higher and lower into the subtle energies, and it is very chaotic. So the Sun takes this subconscious and channels it, directs it and creates something that has never been, and the Moon brings up more, and more, and more like lava, out the spout of the volcano. The Moon, luna, is the feeling of lunar energy. It is irrational and illogical. The Sun and the Moon complement each other. It s so beautiful to have this light and inspiration, and they illuminate each other. Look at the full Moon. We learn through polarity on this plane. So this is so gorgeous to have this Mother and Father; Sun and Moon. This Moon energy, as it comes out in the chart, is going to manifest in very different ways. There are different levels of it. It is the inner child, our innermost needs, innermost fears, our past, where we seek comfort and nurturing in this ever-changing flow. So the Moon, by Sign/House/Aspect, really indicates how we feel safe, secure, and comfortable. It would be so great and so important to have parents, even if they re not going to learn astrology, at least to know their children s Moon signs. Because the Moon is what you need. I need this to feel comfortable, nurtured, a sense of being held, like I belong here on planet earth. Give this kid what they need. The Moon in Different Signs The Moon in Gemini, give them a book. Moon in Sagittarius, let them run outside in nature. Moon in Pisces, give them an instrument. Moon in Scorpio, give them some mystery to solve, investigate, dig into, uncover. Moon in Leo, put them on stage. Give them a microphone. Go for it! Put yourself out there! You re amazing! Of course, we have to look at all the apsects. If you ve got the Moon square Saturn, Moon opposite Jupiter, Moon Trine Mercury, there s all these different aspects. What we re doing now is looking at core principles, needs and situations. This is the way they ideally/ultimately manifest. So your client may say, Well, that s not happening! Well, no because you ve got that Moon in Leo, square Saturn in Taurus! The

10 essential core nature of that Moon in Leo, what it wants, what it needs, and that s where it will feel comfortable. Then you have to look at the whole chart and give that interpretation of why Saturn in Taurus is squaring that. We don t want to get overwhelmed with complexity. We ll just say that when we look at these signs and the planets in a sign that we are talking about core reality of that planet or planetary function. The Moon is Your Treasure The Moon is not only our inner child and your inner needs, but then through evolution and as we grow, it is also how we mother, nurture, and what we have to offer. I always look at the Moon as a springboard. You come out of your Moon sign, This is what I ve got! In some ways, it s your gold, your treasure that you came in to share. I ve got the Moon in Aquarius. I have a whole new concept, a whole new idea, whole new ways of structuring, systematizing, global affairs. I am able to, through my non-attachment, understand so much and see so much, know so much. Help people open their third eye. Awaken people. Moon in Virgo, I am a healer. I come into this world knowing and feeling the physical body, physical world and how we all have been wounded. I know and feel how we are all being initiated, and how we all need to purify, purge and clean ourselves and prepare ourselves. I come in with this healing energy, with this understanding. This is how this Moon can be. Not only our inner child, but also our inner Mother. Of course, like with the outer mother, that s another situation that is conditioned by House, Sign and Aspects. The Moon s Nodes The Moon s Nodes are very important, but they are not physical planets. It is where the orbital pattern of the Moon crosses, the ecliptic. Where the Moon rises above the ecliptic is the North Node and where it sets is the South Node. These Moon s Nodes go around every 18.6 years. It s a vortex point that combines the plane of the earth, the Sun and the Moon. It s where the Sun, Moon and Earth all unite, come together. So you can just imagine that these are very powerful points. South Node of the Moon

11 The South Node of the Moon is associated with the past. It s called the dragon s tail, and it is the upside down curly Q. I look at Pluto as the soul, the theme that the soul has been working on over many lifetimes. The South Node of the Moon is the plot. Shamanic astrology says it s your job. It s the job that you had in your past lives. So you re working on a theme, and how you ve been working on that theme is the South Node of the Moon. The character who you ve been, who you are, who you come in as, and who you were is the Moon. So when I look to the chart, I look at it in terms of past and future. The past is Pluto, South Node of the Moon, and the Moon itself. These are the 3 points I look at. I also use the 12 th house cusp. The sign on the cusp of the 12 th house is where you re coming from; the ascendant is what you re learning, the school that you re in. The 2 nd house is where you re evolving towards. Retrograde The Moon s Nodes actually go retrograde backwards through the horoscope. So all the planets are moving counter-clockwise, and the Moon s Nodes move clockwise. I use the true Node of the Moon, which goes retrograde a long time, direct a little bit, retrograde a long time, direct a little bit, etc. They move retrograde more than direct. So there is a Mean Node that they calculate, they take the 18.6 and they figure how much per day it is moving, and it s always going retrograde. None of this see-saw stuff. So I use the true Node and you can experiment with both and research that yourself. North Node of the Moon The North Node of the Moon has to do with your future job. It has to do with where the soul wants to be going, the unknown and unfamiliar. South Node is the known and familiar. I can do that, I ve been there, I ve evolved through that polarity, Sign, House, Aspects. Planets conjunct the South Node of the Moon is, I ve got energy, I did a lot back then. Maybe I didn t finish it. This usually indicates one of three things. The first can be a state of fruition. I ve got Venus conjunct the South Node of the Moon. I am a Goddess. I know about love, abundance, and acceptance. I m beautiful. It can also relate to having relationships that didn t get resolved or quite finished. I need to meet these folks over again. I have some dangling metaphors with my relationships, and I can t move

12 to my North Node until I deal with my Venus on the South Node. So it can be this state of things not being done yet. As usual, it s probably a mixture of both. The first is fruition, the second is redo, and the third is a little bit of both. I ve gained a tremendous amount, and I ve got even more to go. Life is this blend, this mix, not usually just one or the other. Exceptions With the North Node The North Node is the unknown, unfamiliar, untried. Right here I m going to get into a little bit of the exceptions. Pluto conjunct the North Node is an exception to the rule of simply going from the past to the future. Pluto conjunct the North Node is, I ve been working on this, and I want to continue working on this. So there is no polarity point. It s not like Pluto wants to go to its opposite sign to evolve. It wants to stay right where it is by House, Sign and Aspect, and keep working at it. It s a multiple life task, job, project that the soul is on. Planets squaring the Moon s Nodes: you ve got the South Node and the North Node, and a planet or two squaring those Nodes. Then you have a situation where you tried to go from the South Node to the North Node prematurely. You didn t finish. You didn t wrap it up. You didn t fully get it. Maybe you re a little impatient (like me). Almost all my planets are square the Nodes haha! It s like, I want to get the heck out of here. I want to get to the other side! I want to get out of this. I m excited to evolve very rapidly and I think that I have! (*laughing) You jumped to your North Node somewhat prematurely and oops, forgot about this, forgot about that, or I d like to do that (the planets squaring the Nodes by sign, house and aspect). So you have these squares to the Nodes. Jeffrey Green calls them skipped steps. To me that has a little bit of a negative connotation. I like to call them missing pieces to the puzzle; very important planets squaring the Moon s Nodes. In many cases we re going from the South Node to the North Node unless we have those exceptions, Pluto conjunct the North Node and planets squaring the Nodes.

13 The Story of Lilith I ve just been working with Lilith recently, less than a year, but I feel her, I ve been talking to her, and I love her. She told me she didn t want to be called Black Moon Lilith. She just wants to be Lilith. She s a beautiful, amazing, wonderful nature spirit. I don t want to go into her whole background, but she existed as an ancient Sumerian Goddess, a hand maiden of Inanna, the Goddess of love. She was initiating men, bringing them into the temple of love, the temple of Inanna. She would initiate them into the sacred sexual rights, open them up to the sacredness of the sexual act, and this happened long before the patriarchy; before Adam came along. Then Adam and the patriarchy came along 6500 years ago, and Adam wanted to have her diminish herself, be beneath him, go down. Personally I feel this has to do with doggy-style sex. In the old days, there was just doggy style, meeting on the first and second chakras. Part of her whole thing was sacred sexuality meeting eye to eye, face to face, all 7 chakras, making the sexual act a whole chakra union. So Adam wants her to go down and be beneath and do it the old-fashioned way. She says, I m a powerful, amazing, voluptuous, fertile, abundant Goddess. It s not happening, man. And I m not going to fight you about it. If you don t respect me, listen to me, want to meet me as an equal and learn from me I ll see you later! And she takes off and leaves and goes out to the Red Sea. That s where she is. The patriarchy is now finishing and closing. It s time to bring Lilith back out from the cold, and back into the garden. Since all of these planets are psycho-spiritual functions within ourselves, this Lilith is an aspect of ourselves that is true and fundamental. It is our true self, our feminine internal self. Clarification on Black Moon Lilith Very quickly; the Moon is not a circular orbit, it s elliptical. An ellipse has two centers of gravity, where a circle has one. An ellipse needs two centers of gravity. Lilith is the second center of gravity for the Moon s orbit. It is the closet you can get to Gaia. It s the sister of Gaia. It s this hugely powerful point in your chart. It s not the asteroid Lilith, not the Dark Moon Lilith. There s a whole bunch of Liliths out there. I work with the Black Moon Lilith. Be careful which one you use. I use the Mean as opposed to the True.

14 Lilith is a Rejected Truth The way that I see Lilith is this truth. It s this truth of who we are on a deeply, internal, feeling, feminine level. This has been dominated through external authority, patriarchy, conditioning, family, society, churches, religions, and manmade laws. The attempt has been made to squash, hold down, diminish and degrade it. It s also this part of us that does not want confrontation, does not want to assert, does not want to come back and say, Wait a minute now! So it deals with self-rejection. Lilith in your chart is where you also have rejected that truth within yourself of who and what you truly and essentially, in a core, internal level, are. Where we reject ourselves, there s a lot of shadow, a lot of guilt and shame. That guilt and shame gets rejected out, and so Lilith can be one nasty, nasty girl. It is a nasty part of ourselves, where there s a lot of anger. Lilith in Mythology If you look at the mythology of it, the whole Hebrew culture and Judaic traditions had amulets that would keep Lilith away! She married the devil. She was the snake. There s a picture of a female torso with a snake tail, offering Eve the apple. Lilith was the first wife of Adam, who left, and they replaced her with Eve, out of Adam s rib. So Lilith is this other part that is the rebel, revolutionary, totally different from Adam, totally a different kind of element that will bring in something that is alien to Adam. What we ve got is Eve, out of Adam s rib, a little more palatable. (*laughing) Anyway, they demonized Lilith. We don t want our women running away from our men. We want them listening to our men, raising children, having the man be the head of the household. And OMG Lilith we don t want anybody upsetting our culture like that! We don t want rebels. We don t want independent, strong, powerful women going off and doing their own thing. Hell no! She s a seductress. She s a whore. She uses her sexuality. Remember in Sumerian days, she drew the men into the temple. She s an amazing, voluptuous, beautiful Goddess. Well, no no no! She s a whore. She s a seductress. She uses her sexuality. She makes men come in their sleep, particularly priests. These are the stories that went on. She kills babies. All of this is mythology. You have to understand that mythology is very different. You can t be judgmental. Killing babies is killing

15 the innocence. It s all symbols. Look at these all as symbols. The snake is a symbol. The baby is a symbol. The Sun is a symbol. When you look at mythology or fairy tales, you have to look at the symbols, and step out of that s real and that happened, and that s right and that s wrong and there s a hero and there s a victim. These are all aspects of our human psyche. So when we come into touch with our core, Lilith self, it s kind of the end of innocence, the end of our baby. We can t be babies anymore. We have to grow up. Lilith has (at least) Three Phases So I see Lilith as three things, the first of which is the truth; our inner truth. The second phase comes in when we realize it s not ok to be Lilith. Your parents don t like it, and society doesn t like it. Lilith in Sagittarius: You know too much. You re too free. We can t handle you. You re too smart. You re too much of a philosopher. Don t be lecturing me telling me all kinds of things. The truth of Lilith is, I am a nature spirit, I am in touch with natural law. It is my truth and my power. So it s like withdraw, go into exile, and goto the Red Sea. I reject that self about me. I reject my Sagittarius. I m not going to be a teacher. I m not going to. In this second phase when we reject a truth about ourselves, we project it outward and get pissed off at everyone who is Sagittarian, free and uncommitted. We get pissed off at anyone who likes to travel and is roaming around because we reject that about ourselves, and how dare they get away with it! During phase three, we come into our USL drink your cup of Unconditional Self-Love, every day, every morning, all the time. USL. I drink my USL. I own my Lilith! Lilith then becomes a champion. So Lilith is your truth and also your darkest shadow; where you can have a lot of anger, resentment, rebellion, and bitterness. Ultimately, when you come to accept it and love that part of yourself, then you become a champion of that House, Sign and Aspect, and she is the Joan of Arc. Everybody has a right to be this, to do this, to say this, to go there. You are the champion of that archetype in the chart. So the example of Lilith in Sagittarius reflects the truth as she is a teacher, and she s a teacher of a new way, a new order, and a new connection to natural law. It needs, demands and expects a lot of freedom and openness. Constant learning, travel, and absorbing more and more. This is how I interpret Lilith in the chart.

16 Chiron Chiron is the wounded healer, the rainbow bridge. I love Chiron. Chiron has another elliptical orbit. Pluto has an elliptical orbit. They are co-rulers of the underworld. Let s look at it. The Astronomy of Chiron Chiron goes way out, and then it comes in close to the Earth and Sun and shoots by. It slows down again and goes way out. Every 51 years it goes around. If it s out when you were born, at age 25 you ll have Chiron square Chiron. However, if it was in when you were born, you can have Chiron square Chiron when you are seven. Your Chiron square can come anywhere between age 7 and age 25. So it s unique. On its inside path, it touches the orbit of Saturn, and on the outside path, it touches the orbit of Uranus. That s where they get this rainbow bridge. Saturn is the last visible planet without a telescope. So it represents the boundaries and limits of the 3 rd dimensional, conscious world we live in. We talked about Uranus being our personal UNconscious. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the unconscious aspects of ourselves. Chiron connects our conscious time/space/ego Saturn, with Uranus, our unconscious personal self. So it is the rainbow bridge between worlds, between the conscious and the unconscious. The Mythology of Chiron Chiron was born the son of Saturn and Philyra. Philyra was a water nymph. In mythology, water symbolized space; water and the oceans were space. Saturn: time, Philyra the water nymph: space. So we have the offspring of time and space. What is the offspring of time and space? I really see Chiron as the ego. We are infinite spiritual beings, and when we are born into time and space, we are given an ego. Chiron is this ego, and this ego takes the conscious and connects it to the unconscious. The ego is constantly dealing with the unconscious, getting blown away by it most of the time. (*laughing) Saturn and Philyra both abandoned Chiron and rejected him. He s a centaur and when Philyra first saw him she screamed Ahh, you ugly thing. Of course, Saturn is too busy running the

17 whole planet and being the great God of that time. Zeus was the son of Saturn, so Zeus took the place of Saturn, but at this time, Saturn was the head honcho. He ate Zeus. Saturn at all of his children but anyway... Chiron was then adopted by Apollo, the Sun, and taught everything. I love mythology. Read mythology and you will know astrology. Each one of these myths is like the psycho-spiritual function of our unconscious/conscious self. It s absolutely key, core, and profound, the wisdom contained in mythology. So Chiron was trained by, mentored by, and brought up by, Apollo. Apollo was the God of poetry and music and more. He taught Chiron everything. Chiron became a master teacher, and this master teacher taught Achilles, Hercules, Jason, and every single hero that was tutored in ancient Greece. So the ego learns, gains, and teaches, and it was Hercules, one of his students, who came in and shot him with a poison arrow. Because Chiron was a centaur, and centaurs were known as wild, ravaging, raping, partying maniacs, they stormed a wedding at one time and Chiron was there. All the heroes, led by Hercules, came in to cool them off. It was accidental, but Hercules did shoot him with a poison arrow. Since Chiron was immortal (the son of Saturn) he could not die. He had been hit with an arrow that was poisoned, so he was in constant pain and suffering. Chiron and Our Wounded Ego The interpretation that I give to it is that puts something out in the world and we can get wounded. Our ego is wounded. We don t have the answers to everything. So Chiron goes out and becomes the Father of Homeopathy. He looks at every plant, mineral, and remedy possible to heal his wound, and he can t find it on this plane, in this world, it does not exist. Our ego seeks money, power, prestige, the right spouse, and the right job in order to soothe and put balm on its wound of separation. It doesn t happen Surrender the Ego until Chiron surrenders. I will die. I let go. I give up. The ego, once it dies, surrenders, lets go and gives up, things change. Zeus comes along and they said, Alright, you take the place of Prometheus on the rock. We have talked about Prometheus as symbolic of Uranus, the light bearer who stole fire from the Gods and brought it down. He got punished for it by Zeus, chained

18 to the rock. His liver got eaten out every day by the Griffin and it grew back every night. It goes on and on, but we ll just say that he was going to be there for all eternity until someone took his place. Chiron freed Prometheus. Prometheus: unbound, third eye, Uranus, is able to open, is freed when the ego accepts to die and take its place on the rock. Of course when Chiron dies, the ego dies, and it s just a one-time thing. His liver doesn t grow back. He goes down into the underworld, down into the realm of Pluto for nine days. After nine days, Zeus raises him up (after Hercules and Mercury plead with him). You ve been down there long enough. I now throw you out into the night sky as the constellation of the Centaur. That s where Chiron is today, in a different form of immortality. Not an ego then, seeking immortality on this plane, in this body, on this planet where it cannot be found. But when it finally surrenders and dies, it is celestially immortality. So we find our immortality in our infinite, sacred spiritual self. Chiron is Crisis in the Chart In your chart, by Sign, House and Aspect, this Chiron is crisis. They say it is your wound. It s where you have been wounded. Chiron in Aquarius: I feel like an alien, a weirdo. Maybe I ve had past lives of being locked up, imprisoned, put in jail. Chiron in Pisces: I feel abandoned by God. God has wounded me. Chiron in Aries: My sexuality has been wounded. My masculine was deeply wounded. Chiron in Taurus: My sense of self-worth and my money, my sexuality is also attacked and wounded and destroyed. Just go through the signs and see how that sign can be wounded. This causes great pain and suffering wherever Chiron is in your chart. It s also like where your ego is learning its greatest lessons. As such, you become a master. Father of Homeopathy, you look for every remedy for that pain. Then you become the healer. So our wound becomes our medicine. It s where you have been wounded, but as you process, learn, reach all this pain and suffering Chiron in Aquarius becomes the revolutionary, leader of the revolution, the new, the progressive, the prophet, science fiction writer and gives humanity a new perspective. Chiron in Pisces becomes the magician, the healer, the priest that anoints and uses subtle energy and magic. Chiron in Aries becomes and gives people the right to be strong and understand their instincts, their bodies and their drives. This is the wound becoming the medicine. Overview of a Sample Chart

19 Let s look at our sample chart. 1Webinar is the name of the chart. Let s call this person Mary. Mary was born on March 24, 1953 at 6:22pm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. If you calculate this chart, you will see that Mary has the Sun at 4 degrees Aries in the 6 th house. It has just set because we know that the chart is a 24-hour clock. 12 noon is up top, and then we have the descendant at 6:00 at night. Midnight is down below, the left is the rising. It s 5 degrees, 57 minutes of Libra. The Moon is up there at 3 degrees, 32 minutes of Leo in the 10 th house, using the Porphyry house system. We ll be using this chart for a number of things. Someone has asked how to find the ruling planet of a chart. We ll start with that, we ll go into retrograde, what it means, what it s about, and different examples of retrograde planets. Also someone asked about planetary patterns, which we ll use this chart to look at that also. Ruling Planets Let s start with the ruling planet. A lot of astrologers will simply say to take the ascendant, the rising sign, and the ruling planet of the chart is the ruler of the ascendant, in this case, Venus (because Venus rules Libra). So that s like the simple, down and dirty way that a lot of astrologers use to find the ruling planet. There s also a means that I like to use, it s very interesting, it s called disposition. A planet is disposited by the ruler of the sign that it occupies. So let s look at this chart. We can start with any planet. Let s start with Uranus. You can see Uranus is in the sign of Cancer. Cancer is ruled by the Moon. Uranus is disposited by the Moon. We go to the Moon. The Moon is in the sign of Leo, and it is disposited by the Sun because the Sun rules Leo. We look at the Sun, the Sun is in the sign of Aries, and Aries is ruled by Mars, the Sun is disposited by Mars. Mars is in Taurus, Taurus is ruled by Venus. So Mars is disposited by Venus. Venus is in the sign of Taurus. It is ruled by Venus. Venus is disposited by Venus. If you really want to get down to it, it s like you can start with just about any planet, and it comes back around to Venus. Pretty tricky, huh? (*laughing) This is also because Venus is in its own sign of Taurus. This is where we get into rulerships. Saturn at 25 degrees of Libra in the first house. Libra is ruled by Venus (look at the Horoscope Interpretation Guide). Therefore, any planet in the sign of Libra is disposited by, like it has a

20 Venusian influence, Venus is the Lord over those planets. Venus disposits Saturn and Neptune. So that takes you over to Venus as being kind of in charge of Saturn and Neptune because they are in her sign. This makes Venus very powerful when it comes to Saturn and Neptune. She is the Lord, in a way, of that sign and over those planets. So when we go over to Venus, we say who is Lord over Venus? What planet disposits Venus? Well nobody because Venus is in her own sign. Venus rules Taurus. You can see that Venus is at 1 degree, 16 minutes of Taurus. The fact that Venus is also the ruler of the ascendant, we can see in Mary s chart, that no matter how you figure it, whether you use just the ruling planet of the ascendant, or you go through this method of disposition, you re going to come up with the same result, that Venus rules Mary s chart. I don t really use it, but I ll explain it for you. I just look at the whole chart. I look at every aspect of it. If anything, I would say I do archetypally driven astrological interpretation, more than so many calculations, techniques and secrets. Planetary Patterns Next, before we get into retrograde planets, someone has asked about planetary patterns. So we have the ruling planet of the chart, and then we have planetary patterns. Some planetary patterns are very basic, powerful and strong. The first of the ones I m familiar with is the Grand Trine. Grand Trine When you have three planets, each of them 120 degrees away from each other, in 3 different signs, you have a Grand Trine. You take the circle, divide it by 3, (360 / 3 = 120). It is a Trine. There is no Grand Trine that I can speak of in this chart. There is one that s pretty close, but not exact. You can see Jupiter at 19 degrees of Taurus is in Trine to Chiron at 20 degrees of Capricorn, and Lilith over there at 10 degrees of Virgo. Let s just say Lilith, if she was another 5 or 10 degrees, there would be almost an exact Grand Trine in Earth. The thing about the Grand Trine is that it connects 3 planets together that are usually in the same element, unless they re right by the cusps. So I like to think of the Trine as a three-legged table. It balances anywhere, on a hillside, on a rock. A Grand Trine is very stabilized and very supported. It s the law of three, the trinity, however you want to look at this. These Trine aspects are very supportive. There s an easy flow, an exchange of energy between those planets for good or bad, right or wrong, in sickness and in health (*laughing)

21 It s not like a Grand Trine is, Oh yeah, that s great. You have a Moon/Mars/Saturn Grand Trine and it s like Whoa! Sometimes a Grand Trine can be, I don t want to say the word lazy but I just get stuck in it. I don t want to get out of it. It s great, supportive, strong and flowing. Like we re walking the Buddhistic middle way here at New Paradigm Astrology. We don t want to get lost on this side or that side. The Grand Cross The Grand Cross is when you take the circle and you divide it by 4. You get 90 degrees in each section. Cardinal x 4, Mutable x 4, Fixed x 4. It is, I ve got an opposition here between Mars and Jupiter, and over here I have an opposition between the Moon and Venus. The Moon and Jupiter are square each other. That makes this whole thing a Grand Square/Cross. I like to call it a diamond just because it s got a bad rap. In astrology it s like, Oh these people have it really tough, bad, rough, challenging. The square is a challenging aspect, but it s also that these are the people that change the world! These are your locomotive engines. It s creative tension, let s not forget. It s very important to look at the Signs, Planets and Houses involved, and other aspects to those planets. The Grand Cross is a Grand Square is a Grand Diamond. These four planets and energies are really connected and it s really powerful and dynamic. There is tension. Tune your guitar string and tighten it up, and you ve got a Grand Square right when it is just about to break. (*laughing) Other Planetary Patterns Then you ve got a Yod. A Yod is the finger of God. The Yod is when we have 2 degrees, 2 angles. For this, it s somewhat important not to get intimidated. You don t need to know all of this right now. There s the Yod and also the Kite. The Grand Trine and the Grand Square are the easiest, simplest, and they show up a lot more often. I ll go into the Yod and the Kite, and other patterns in a more advanced webinar. Mark Edmund Jones came up with different planetary patterns that you can just look at when you look at the whole chart. You look at these planets, and you can have a bundle. It s a huge concentration and focus of energy when planets are clumped together in a bundle. You can also

22 have a funnel, where there s one planet over here and a whole bunch over there, and everything is getting funneled through that single planet. You can have a bowl where all of your planets are within 180 degrees, and it s got an opposition. If you look at my chart, I have a bowl pattern with Moon opposite Saturn, and everything is pretty much there except Chiron, and that could be considered the funnel. Or they call it a bucket, and Chiron is the handle planet. Then there s the seesaw pattern, if you ve got two groups of planets opposite each other, and the opposition is like the main aspect within that chart. This is called the seesaw pattern, and the person goes back and forth between those two. So there are different planetary patterns. There s about seven of them. A splay is when you ve got stuff going on all over the place. And Mary, our example chart, could be considered a splay. Of course, when we look at these charts, I don t know that you necessarily want to consider Chiron, Lilith and the Moon s Nodes. These planetary patterns were/are used without all the asteroids and extra points, just the main planets. If you look at this chart, and you don t use Chiron or the North Node, then you have this open space, and one of these planetary types is an open angle. The open angle here is at Saturn 25 degrees of Libra. If we don t use Chiron or the Moon s Nodes, then we have nothing going on until the next planet is at 22 degrees of Pisces. That s 150 degrees where there s no major planet or point. So that is an open angle within the chart. That open angle becomes important in the interpretation. Again, this was a question that was asked. I don t really use that so much in my interpretation. I just look at the whole chart, but maybe somewhere it is flopping around in the back of my mind. There are books that go into it more deeply. Mark Edmund Jones is the one who originally came up with them. He is one of the forefathers of modern humanistic astrology, and was an amazing man. Retrogrades Let s look at retrogrades. A retrograde planet is most often a planet that the Earth is coming around and passing by, so it appears as if the planet is moving backwards. Just like when you re driving a car, and you get in the passing lane and pass a car, it can look like that car is moving backwards. It s an optical illusion, a phenomenon. The planets do not go backwards. They look like they are going backwards with the backdrop of the night, starry sky. Therefore this happens
