4 Saturn in Sagittarius New hope began when Saturn moved into Sagittarius on October But this is experienced only by uncovering certain facts. Saturn in Sagittarius spares no blushes in getting to the truth and finding justice. The secrets that were hidden in Scorpio are being brought out into the open thanks to the influence of Saturn and the lunar sign, Mula, at the very beginning of Sagittarius. This continues to be the case in 2018, as Saturn transits Sagittarius all year and Mula until March 2. It enters the next lunar sign, Purva Ashadha at this time, and until it returns to Mula by June 5 during its retrograde phase from April 17 to September 6 finally leaving Mula on November 27. Mula is a destructive sign, represented by the goddess of destruction, Niritti, (pictured) likened to Kali. Destruction does not always have to be big and dramatic, of course. This may be an inner process of destroying our own limitations; a key consideration when Saturn becomes involved in the process. Moving us beyond our own limitations eventually brings us to freedom, which is what Sagittarius is all about. The following lunar sign in Sagittarius, Purva Ashadha, symbolized by an elephant s tusk, represents breaking through or breaking free of restraint. We have more of a sense of moving forward in 2018, although it may seem like we are moving backwards at times, especially when Saturn returns to Mula during the summer and autumn. Although the process of attaining freedom is not always certain - and Saturn s presence in Sagittarius instils a sense of realism not always suited to our big ideas at least we are making progress. This is certainly the case for Gemini and Aquarius, with both Saturn and Jupiter creating the fertile soil for creative growth in Slowly but surely we venture forth. Saturn s previous trek through Scorpio brought up so many scandals and fears that any sense of moving beyond these - no matter how challenging - is a welcome relief.

5 Jupiter in Libra & Scorpio Jupiter transits Libra until October 11, remaining in the lunar sign, Vishakha for most of that time. It returns to Swati on June 18 due to its retrograde transit from March 8 to July 10. It stations direct here, before re-entering Vishaskha on August 2, remaining in a lunar sign that bridges the solar signs Libra and Scorpio until October 27. Vishakha is symbolized by an archway which represents a way forward on a particular path. A way is shown in how to move forward by Jupiter from the sign Libra to Scorpio as it moves us inward to focus on the right path for us as individuals. With a focus on our chosen path, our energy is streamlined and we can achieve a great deal. That is not to say that there will not be obstacles to encounter. Jupiter transits through a section of the zodiac symbolized by the destruction necessary to clear a pathway forward. Jupiter in Libra has a balancing effect on our lives whether we want it or not! Issues of equality are ever present. However, Jupiter s influence in Libra is to send our attention outward and to scatter our awareness and intuition in the process. This has largely been the experience by the end of 2017, as Jupiter transited the sign Swati, represented by the god of wind, Vayu. But another expression of this is the ability to direct the life force and our attention. As Jupiter enters Vishakha, our focus can be appropriately attuned, as we move into 2018 and, after October 11, into the sign Scorpio. While Libra focuses us on others for most of 2018, Scorpio s influence grants us an inner intelligence sometimes left behind in favour of others needs in Libra. Jupiter in Scorpio grants an inner knowing, an intuition, often left high and dry in Libra. Jupiter in Scorpio brings our attention to spirituality. With all of the changes taking place in 2018, we seek that which does not change in the midst of upheavals.

6 Rahu (North Node) in Cancer/Ketu (South Node) in Capricorn Rahu and Ketu, the lunar nodes, moved into sidereal Cancer and Capricorn on September They remain in these signs until March This shifts the nodes from the masculine-oriented signs, Leo and Aquarius, to the feminine signs, Cancer and Capricorn. One obvious expression of this transit is the need for emotional security (Cancer), oftentimes at the expense of fulfilling our responsibilities (Capricorn). Although each individual can be on one side or the other of the equation, in general we gravitate to Rahu in Cancer, seeking security, while rejecting Ketu in Capricorn and our responsibilities. This shows a removal of those in position of responsibility, for example. There is always a catch with nodes influence, however: if you are too eager to fill a hole in the Rahu area of your life, you may end up chasing away the very thing you seek! In other words, if you are greedy, you will end up losing out. Rahu represents greed. It shows our need for experience. Cancer represents the home environment, and the time of year we identify more closely with comfortable living, i.e. summer. Any threat to security puts us all on guard. Rahu represents the ego, which is always under threat. Emotional manipulations are more prevalent during 2018, as a result of Rahu s transit through Cancer. Ketu in Capricorn represents a breaking down of the established order. Ketu shows a need to run for the hills and denounce all responsibilities. You may wish to quit a job, for example, because you don t feel like doing it, or you may experience a shake-up in management structures at work. These influences become more prominent during cycles of either Rahu or Ketu in your own life, while the dynamics involved become more obvious during the eclipses throughout the year.

7 Total Lunar Eclipse in Cancer January 31 The first eclipse of 2018 is a total lunar eclipse. The Moon is very close to the north node, Rahu, showing a total eclipse, which involves Mercury and Venus, while the Sun in Capricorn transits alongside the south node, Ketu. Planets crossing Ketu show a need to let go of something, while the Rahu end of the spectrum shows an insatiable want for something. What that something is depends on each individual s horoscope, of course, but in a general sense, we are seeking security and emotional stability. Lunar eclipses show an immediate trigger, more obviously observable in those experiencing a cycle of the nodes, or with planets close to the eclipse degree. The lining up of the Sun, Moon and Earth with the nodes offers an insight into the inner workings of the situation, as everything lines up for a new perspective. The Moon is eclipsed in the lunar sign Ashlesha which is represented by a serpent. Emotionally, this is an intense eclipse that can have a snake charmers hypnotic effect on us. Something grabs our attention and we are transfixed!

8 Partial Solar Eclipse in Aquarius February 15 The first of three solar eclipses in 2018 is a partial eclipse in Aquarius. Although the nodes are in Cancer and Capricorn, a partial eclipse is possible in an adjacent sign. Ketu s influence on the Sun represents a need to renounce or remove a block to experiencing oneness. With Mercury and Venus having transited Ketu in the weeks prior to this eclipse, there is an opportunity to let go and simplify our lives. Aquarius represents humanity and humanitarian issues are lined up during these transits and this solar eclipse. Mercury transits this eclipse degree the day after the eclipse itself, so there is something important to communicate about these insights. The solar eclipse occurs in the lunar sign Dhanistha, a lunar sign symbolized by a drum. If we are silent, we can hear what needs to be conveyed at this time.

9 Partial Solar Eclipse in Gemini July 13 The second solar eclipse of 2018 occurs on July 13 and is a partial eclipse in Gemini. This eclipse points to changes that are on the agenda in the years to come, with subsequent eclipses occurring in Gemini and Sagittarius in 2019/20. This eclipse occurs opposite Saturn, as well as Pluto - almost by exact degree. This axis in the zodiac is particularly activated for the coming years, as if a reset button is about to be pushed; breaking down much so that new ways are brought forward. This eclipse offers insights into the dynamics involved. The lunar sign is Punarvasu which is represented by goddess Aditi: drawing a pattern we can understand more clearly once the shadows pass. What that reset button represents becomes more and more apparent in the coming years. Looking to these signs in your own horoscope will give you a sense of where you personally feel the need to change.

10 Total Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn July 27/28 The second total lunar eclipse of 2018 is on July 27, with the eclipse ending in the early hours of July 28 (GMT). The Moon is at the same degree at the start of the eclipse as Mars, in close conjunction to the south node, Ketu. This is highly volatile for the planet and our personal lives. With the Sun and Rahu in the opposite sign, and Mercury retrograde at the sensitive juncture between Cancer and Leo, there is ample opportunity for big shake ups and events that trigger immediate changes. Mars presence and subsequent transit back over the eclipse degree in September ensures things are pushed out into the open so we can deal with them. The Moon enters the lunar sign Shravana, as it becomes completely eclipsed for the second time in Shravana, much like the following sign, Dhanistha, is represented by our ability to listen. If we are quiet, we can hear what we need to hear. But with all the noise of the summer we are challenged to hear what is most important. Saturn is retrograde in the sign Mula at this time, revisiting themes of unearthing that which was hidden.

11 Partial Solar Eclipse in Cancer August 11 The last partial solar eclipse of 2018 occurs in Cancer. Mars is retrograde and close to Ketu for the eclipses, while Mercury is retrograde and close to the Sun (combust). This makes for a highly volatile period for the planet. Mercury transits the eclipse degree by the end of August, while Mars transits opposite to the eclipse degree by the end of October both planets triggering the eclipse degree during the latter part of summer and into the autumn. Whenever Mercury and Mars are involved, there is a need to communicate something that is pushed into our conscious awareness oftentimes in an abrupt and surprising manner. Once that something is revealed, debate and discussion ensue, particularly by late August and into the autumn. The Sun is partially eclipsed in the lunar sign Ashlesha; where we experienced the lunar eclipse in January. This again makes for an intriguing period, as emotions are churned, while the pros and cons of situations are thrashed out. Eventually, the noise settles as we loosen our mental grip and allow the answers to come to the surface.

12 2018 Timeline Mars is strong in transit for most of the year. Sounds like a good thing, right?! Hmm, well, good for what? Mars represents the very necessary steps we must take to gain strength. Mars-ruled signs, Aries and Scorpio, are certainly given a boost by Mars strength in However, many will not be happy with such a malefic planet in full force, especially as Mars retrogrades and conjuncts the south node in the summer has the potential of being a highly explosive year, with natural and man-made disasters increasing around the world begins with Uranus stationing direct in Mars sign, Aries: the natural first sign of the zodiac. The planet of shock and surprises brings even more fresh and unexpected starts, breaking free from old ways of being on the journey towards personal freedom. This journey is not without incident, of course. Uranus is at a particularly sensitive juncture at the very beginning of Aries; with fire taking over from water in the zodiac. Adding Uranus to the mix adds to the creative and explosive start to Mars and Jupiter transit closely together in the opposite sign, Libra, bringing a push for compromise while seeking emancipation. Mars and Jupiter are exaggerating the situation in Aries by aspect. The Jupiter/Uranus opposition has been evident through the end of A good example of this has been Catalonia s need for both freedom and compromise, which ultimately ended their freedom from Spain. The situation was halted partly because of Mars and Saturn strongly influencing each other at the time. With Mars joining Jupiter opposite Uranus into the New Year, we will feel a need to push ahead with new ideas and a new action plan spurring us along, and many surprises to boot. The Moon enters Gemini on New Year s Day and into the stormy lunar sign, Ardra, later in the day. This is also a full Moon phase, with a combust Saturn and Venus opposite in Sagittarius. This dampens the mood somewhat, but is an opportune time to step back to inspect our long term goals for The Moon then passes the north node in Cancer and into Leo on January 5, bringing all of the visible planets on one side of the nodal axis, re-creating the divisive Kala Amrita Yoga between January 5 and January 13.

13 Venus breaks this unsettling combination one last time by January 13, instilling a need to simplify our lives during all of the upheavals. Venus joins the south node, Ketu, by exact degree on January 29, by which time the Sun and Mercury will have joined Venus in Capricorn. The New Year is a rude awakening, in many respects, but this is not unusual with the transits for the New Year. Venus is combust (not visible) in January, scrutinizing our festive indulgences. We will see Venus again as the bright evening star in early February just in time for Valentine s Day - and can once again be guided by the planet of appreciation, love and harmony. Mars enters its own sign, Scorpio, by January 16. This is strong start to the year if you were planning any New Year s resolutions! The Sun enters Capricorn on January 14, marking the start of the bright half of the year for those on the northern hemisphere. Along with Mars, Venus is another key player in how 2018 unfolds, as it rules the sign in which Jupiter is placed (Libra), while Jupiter governs the sign in which Saturn is placed (Sagittarius). Venus has a big say in how all of our big plans play out in 2018, as a result. Mars takes over the reins from Venus in October, as Jupiter enters Scorpio on October 11. While Venus is transiting Capricorn and Aquarius between January 13 and March 2, Saturn has an objective eye on proceedings, and Saturn s current mode is that of truth finding at any cost; in the lunar sign Mula, while Ketu in Capricorn further destabilizes established structures. Although Saturn moves into the next lunar sign Purva Ashadha by March 2 a sign that brings us many breakthroughs in 2018 it returns to Mula for the summer and autumn months. This is a particularly volatile period when Mars transit alongside the south node is taken into account. Once Venus reaches its sign of exaltation, Pisces, by March 2, this promises a better environment and more to appreciate - after all of the instability has been experience during the winter months. Mercury promptly joins Venus on March 3 and lowers the tone considerably. While Venus is in Pisces, it exchanges signs with Jupiter in Libra. Although they are in a less-than-friendly formation in the zodiac, at least there are some areas of life that benefit from the exchange. Venus continues transiting in Pisces until March 26, at which

14 time Mercury will be finding some strength by its retrograde transit in Pisces a period to stop and smell the roses. Venus then gives the reins back to Mars, as it enters Aries on March 26 and joins Uranus, bringing with it more shocks and jolts to help wake us from our winter slumber. The new Moon in Pisces on March 17 is a lunar New Year in the Vedic calendar. Venus is exalted and Mercury is debilitated in any chart drawn at this time, so both are adding and subtracting something. Saturn and Mars are together in the 10 th area from the Moon, the area of management and governments, while Jupiter is retrograde in the 8 th area of change. By April 1, Mars and Saturn are in exact conjunction and this is tense the world over. This occurs in Jupiter s sign, Sagittarius, while Venus and Jupiter are in opposition. Jupiter is retrograde from March 8 to July 10, bringing Jupiter and Venus into exact opposition by April 16, conflating issues. Mercury is retrograde in Pisces from March 23 to April 15, and not helping matters by muddling the details. This period is more conducive to day-dreaming and pondering the many new twists and turns life has offered up, than making any definitive plans. The Sun enters sidereal Aries on April 14 and marks a new beginning, with the new Moon in Aries on April 16. Venus transits Taurus from April 19 to May 14, while the Moon joins it in Taurus on April 19/20. This lends itself to a sweet start to springtime. We must make the most of these transits and the pleasure and happiness they afford us, as the summer months begin to heat things up around the world - in every sense of the word! Venus provides relief in what is otherwise a turbulent time in late spring and early summer, as Mars is conjunct a stationary Pluto by April 26, with Saturn retrograde alongside Mars and Pluto. Jupiter is also retrograde, increasing the need to negotiate the many terms and conditions while structures around us are changing. This period offers a preview of the many big changes on the horizon in the coming years. Saturn will re-enter the sign Mula by June 5 until November 27. It re-enters Mula just as Ketu and Mars join forces in Capricorn, making for a volatile summer and autumn. Mars enters its sign of exaltation, Capricorn, on May 2. It remains in mostly a strong position until November 6, except during a retrograde period from June

15 26 to August 27. When a planet transits its exaltation sign, and is retrograde, it brings with it a sense of the planet being in debilitation; frustrating our plans with unforeseen delays, and many more twists and turns to negotiate. Much of the frustration can be alleviated by your awareness of the potential downsides to this transit. Mars is strong all summer - even during its retrograde transit in July and August, as it is closer to earth than it has been since 2003 it s just that the proximity of Mars is a challenge to express itself clearly, and we feel out of sorts by not being able to do so. More energy is available, and yet not expressible, as Mars retrogrades, leading to all kinds of setbacks and sudden outbursts on the planet through natural disasters, and in our personal lives through man-made ones. The volatility of the summer and autumn are accentuated by Ketu s position alongside Mars for all of its transit in Capricorn. Ketu and Mars come to exact conjunction; first on June 9, as Mars moves over the southern eclipse point; then again on July 20 as Mars retrogrades back into alignment with the south node; and one last time on September 26, when Mars moves forward over the node for one last time. The days around these conjunctions are particularly volatile and require some well-managed restraint. During this entire time, Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is transiting back into Ketu s lunar sign Mula, further increasing the potential for destabilization, uncovering ever more of what lay hidden previously. August is particularly sensitive, when other transits, such as Venus in debilitation in Virgo, are taken into account. Venus rules Libra, the sign in which Jupiter is placed until October 11, making for a less-than-ideal atmosphere of negotiation, in what is a particularly volatile month. This is further confused by Mercury retrograde in Cancer from July 26 to August 19, alongside the north node, Rahu, and opposite the Mars and Ketu conjunction. This occurs in the 12 th sign from Leo, the area of hidden enemies and expenses for governments and prominent figures. Mars and Ketu transit in the 6 th sign from Leo, the area of outright enemies, makes for more fighting in the midst of uncertain times. Although the combination known as Kala Amrita Yoga is not strictly in effect at this time, all of the planets are either joining the

16 nodes or on one side of them, lending itself to yet more of the unsettling sense we had during the latter part of During the intensity of these transits, Venus is debilitated in Virgo from August 1 to September 1. This period could be used effectively to push past our limitations, as Mars transits retrograde in Capricorn. This is very much an internal search for strength, however. Not only is Mars retrograde, but the planet that rules where it is Saturn is also retrograde, while Saturn s ruler, Jupiter, is weakened by Venus debilitation. By looking after Venus: getting plenty of good food, surrounding ourselves with good company, and aspiring for greater than these transits seem to offer, we can move beyond immature reactions that will only serve to conflate the situation. Thankfully, things begin to shift in September, as Venus moves into a strong position, into Libra, by September 1 and Mercury moves into its sign of exaltation, Virgo, by September 19. The next big shift to occur is Jupiter s entry into Scorpio, bringing a much needed balm to the fears we have dealt with since the end of Scorpio related themes of sex and power (or powerlessness); insecurity and loyalty will be understood more completely as Jupiter transits Scorpio from October to November Mars continues to play a big role in how 2018 unfolds; ruling Jupiter s position for the remainder of the year. Its strong position in Capricorn, as Jupiter enters its sign, is good for Saturn, Jupiter and Mars, as we put our strongly-held beliefs to the test, and take positive and realistic steps forward in our lives for the last quarter of There is just one thing holding us back: Venus is retrograde from October 5 to November 16, in Libra. Your money and your honey will demand more of your attention at this time. You are likely to feel pushed into taking action while Mars is exalted, although caution is advised in any of your decision that affect someone close, or your bank balance, for instance. Venus will remain in its own sign, Libra, from September 1 until New Year s Day 2019, as a result of its retrograde transit. This is a welcome relief by the latter part of 2018 and an altogether sweeter transit, once it s retrograde has been negotiated appropriately.

17 Saturn re-enters the lunar sign Purva Ashadha by November 27, and with the help of its ruler, Venus, we can move beyond the turbulence of recent transits and into a better situation. Mars plays a big role in moving forward in 2018, but Venus also has an important role to play in being able to negotiate the terms and conditions. The year finishes with Mars in Pisces, entering the sign on December 23, which means Jupiter and Mars are exchanging signs and strengthening each other. This will feel like a positive end to Some may find it challenging, of course, as Mars and Jupiter require a dedication to a cause, not lightly taken on board. And Rahu, the north node, has a hand in how this plays out because of its influence from Cancer. This brings with it some uncertainty and is not as straight-forward as Mars would have it. Rahu s influence in Cancer scatters our emotions and reactions, while wrestling powerful urges to seek some sense of stability in the midst of a fast-paced and challenging year. Finally, Mercury is retrograde from November 17 to December 6, in Mars sign, Scorpio. It reaches the last degree of Scorpio by New Year s Eve, a period to hold our breath as we leave 2018 behind, and venture beyond any remaining fears that still hold us back. Leo Expenses increase this year if you are not conscious of overspending. Pay attention to your health routines and work commitments. As your interests increase, study and travel opportunities open themselves up to you. Be mindful of your interaction with co-workers or employees. Virgo You are going through some changes at home, while steady progress is made at work. Great opportunities are available to move beyond your personal point of view. Sharing a common vision will increase your network, and what you think of as possible now will surely expand through the year. Be mindful of your interaction with followers (in person or online), as well as your children.
