3 Editorial We have entered into the next month of the year named Jaya. This will be a crucial month with respect to the English month of June as Jupiter is moving from Taurus to Gemini. This change of position of Jupiter will be very important for almost everyone as Jupiter is exalted in Gemini. This exalted position of Jupiter is very good for spirituality and many spiritual activities can be experienced in the next one year (till Jupiter moves to the next house of Cancer). It s been an interesting month for the entire country due to BJP getting a simple majority in elections (under the leadership of Narendra Modi). As per astrology we will see quite a lot of changes for the good under the prime minister-ship of Modi. It is also going to good for spiritual organizations as a result of the support of Modi. When there is good, there also has to be bad. Thus though for spiritual people it will be good, the next year can also be bad for lagna or rasi of Sagittarius as they will find Jupiter in the 8 th (though it will not be that bad still they will face obstacles that will eventually be overcome through effort). People often wonder if fate does exist then there is no point of astrology as whatever has to happen will definitely happen; if fate doesn t exist and it is only in our hands then there is no point of astrology as it is just about our own effort. Such kind of arguments are not right. As amma says a salty water can be made less salty by adding more water to it; thus though fate is there we can negate it with our own effort (free-will). Astrology is a science that can show us how our future will be and knowing this we can try to negate it with our own effort. This subtle aspect of the science of astrology is not at all remembered by majority of people and therefore they spread the news that astrology isn t right, it isn t required and one is a fool to depend upon it. A wise person will try to use whatever is available to him in order to achieve the ultimate goal of life, moksha. Moksha or ever rejoicing in bliss is through gaining the knowledge that the entire world of names and forms is just an illusion in the non-dual reality of Brahman (one s very nature of Consciousness that pulsates inside as I-exist, I-exist at all times). Since moksha goes against the world and its experience, therefore one needs to put more 3

4 effort towards it (and not get distracted with the world). In order for this to happen, life in the world should be smooth (so that all focus is shifted from the world to the non-dual reality of Brahman). This is where astrology comes handy in that it tells us what we are going to face and therefore makes us ready for the future (or ready to avert the future). Knowing the future and avoiding obstacles in the future (as much as possible) will make us progress smoothly in the world while ever remaining focused on the goal of moksha. Thereby using the science of astrology a person will be able to eventually achieve the ultimate goal of life of moksha. Through learning and practicing the science of astrology we will be able to help people get rid of sorrows in the world and ultimately achieve the goal of moksha. Therefore all those who are passionate about astrology should learn it with earnestness and dedication. It is the purpose of this magazine to help those who are passionate about astrology so that slowly they learn the science of astrology and eventually master it thereby helping themselves and others in order to achieve the ultimate goal of life of moksha. Since everybody is seeking the goal of moksha therefore it would be helpful for everyone to learn and master the science of astrology. May we all strive to learn and master the science of astrology so that through the same we will be able to get rid of all sorrows and ever rejoice in bliss (through attaining the ultimate goal of life of moksha). 4

5 Bhavartha Ratnakara - III In the earlier edition we have seen the dhana yogas in the text. We shall now explore the 3 rd chapter of this text which deals with Brothers. Below are the conditions stated by the text with respect to brothers and courage, which signify this house. 1. The existence of brothers should be divined from either the lord ofthe 3rd or from the karaka of brothers or from the planets combinedwith Mars. 2. If Sun and Mars are associated with the 3rd lord in the 3rd house,the native will be courageous. 3. Bravery is indicated by the presence of Rahu or Ketu in 3rd, whereasthe presence there of Mercury would indicate timidity. 4. If the 3rd house is occupied by either Jupiter or Mars, the nativewill have brothers. 5. Jupiter in the 11th will make one suffer from the elder brother. IfMars is in 11th and is aspected by Saturn, there ll be no elder brotherfor the native. 6. The presence of 10th lord in the 3rd results in the destruction ofmost rajayogas. 7. If the 2nd and 3rd lords are associated, the native will begenerous. If Saturn combines such an association, the native becomes amiser instead. 8. If the 3rd lord is in a dusthana, brothers die. If benefics are alsothere in these houses, the deaths will happen later in life. Let s analyse few charts below to understand about brothers and courage from the 3 rd house. 5

6 Chart 1 Analysis: The 3 rd lord of the above native is sun. 3 rd lord sun is in a Kendra. So this shows the support of kith and kin to the native. This also ensures that the native is courageous. Mars aspects sun in lagna. Due to the aspect of mars on the 3 rd lord sun as well the native is very courageous. From moon, ketu is in the 3 rd house aspected by benefics venus and Jupiter. This also indicates that the person is very bold. 6

7 Chart 2 Analysis: The native of this chart is timid. He is generally unable to take decisions. He is always wavering. He cannot be bold to stand up to what he believes. We see that mercury is in the 3 rd house long with moon, which could be the reason for his timid nature. From moon as well the 3 rd has ketu along with a benefic Jupiter. This is good. The native has no brothers, as mars is neecha in lagna. This also made the native not so courageous. The native has one sister this can be due to the moon with 3 rd lord mercury. 8 Chart 3 Analysis:Jupiter and mars are in 3 rd house for this native. The native has many brothers and sisters as well. We see that the 3 rd lord venus is exalted and is in the lagna. Thus we see that the native has sisters as well. From moon the 3 rd lord is Jupiter and 3 rd lord is also with mars. Thus we see that both from moon and lagna the 3 rd lord and house is associated with Jupiter and mars. 8

9 Chart 4 Analysis: The native of this chart has a younger brother. The 3 rd lord is Jupiter and is in the 11 th house with rahu. Native does not have elder brothers. Mars as well is neecha. But being placed in 10 th house it obtained neecha bhanga. From moon mars is neecha in the 3 rd house. The natives has younger brother who has many health issues. This is due to the 3 rd lord not well placed and associated with malefic. The 3 rd house also afflicted by mars which is debilitated. As mars debilitated also means that brothers will not prosper. 9

10 Chart 5 Analysis: The native of this chart had a younger brother who died in an accident. The 3 rd lord in the above chart is mars. Mars is in 10 th house. 3 rd house is aspected by Jupiter. Thus the native has a brother. The 3 rd house is afflicted by sun and Saturn aspects. Moon is also neecha and is in the 3 rd house. The 3 rd lord mars also is in enemies house and is with enemy mercury. Thus the 3 rd lord, mars as well the 3 rd house were afflicted, resulting in the death of the native s brother. The native of the chart is also not courageous and is very timid and has all kinds of fears and worries. 10

12 Jataka Tattva - I Another text following the parasari system of predictive astrology is Jatakatattva. This text has been written by Mahadeva and it dates back to This Sanskrit work is also said to provide more to diagnose ailments. This text consists of five sections. Samjna, Sutika,Prakirna,Strijataka and dasha. We shall see the 3 rd section, which is called prakirna. Prakrina is further divided into 13 sub divisions. Each division corresponds to one house of the zodiac. We shall see some slokas from the first sub division, which corresponds to the 1 st house, which is called Prathamavivekaha. If lord of the lagna be conjoined with a dry planet, the person will be lean. If lord of the lagna occupy the sign owned by a dry planet, the person will be lean. If lagna be in a watery sign and be occupied or aspected by benefics, the person concerned will have a strong body. If a benefic planet possessed of strength, occupy the lagna, the native will possess a strong constitution. 12

13 Chart 1 Analysis: Lagna lord is venus and is in house of aries which is owned by mars. Mars is a dry planet. So lagna lord is in the sign owned by a dry planet. Hence the person is lean. Lagna lord venus is with mars and sun. Both mars and sun are dry planets. Hence also the person is lean. But lagna lord is in watery sign of aries. Also there are no benefic planets in lagna. Hence the native of the chart was very lean during the early stages of childhood. Now he has put on weight to an extent. Still he is not fat nor very lean. Due to the above mentioned factors, his body structure remains so. Lagna lord is in the 12 th house of losses. This is not a favourable location for healthy constitution of the body. Hence the person suffers from health issues frequently. Lagna is also not in a watery sign. Taurus is an earthy sign. 13

14 The four signs from Cancer are long signs. The four signs from kumbha are short signs. The rest are even signs. If two luminaries occupy the kendras the person has a defective limb. If venusaspected by Saturn occupy the lagna, the person will have some defect in the hip. If lord of the 6 th occupy the sign of mercury or is in makara, the body emits bad smell. Chart 2 14

15 Analysis: The 6 th lord Saturn is in Virgo, which is the house of mercury. The lord of lagna is the house of enemy i.e Saturn. There is a parivartana between the lagna lord mercury and 5 th and 6 th lord Saturn. The 6 th lord is owner of kumbha and is in virgo. The native had some body smells. If moon occupy mesha identical with lagna, the body emits bad smell. If the lord of lagna is in 12 th and is conjoined with or aspected by malefic, the person will walk with the support of a stick. If the lagna lord is in the 12 th or 8 th house, the person will be of angry temperament. In chart 1 above we have seen that the lagna lord is in the 12 th house. The native is short tempered. He is also dhanurrasi, this can also be another reason for anger and short temper. If mars is strong and is in the 7th, the person is of angry temperament. If the lord of the 2nd house be associated with mandi, the person concerned will be angry. If ketu be in the 3rd, the person concerned will be fond of quarrels. If the lord of the 4th house be in lagna and vice versa, the person will be of forgiving disposition. 15

16 In the chart of AMMA, Saturn is exalted in lagna. Being of Thulalagna, Saturn is the 3 rd and 4 th lord exalted in lagna. We all know AMMA is very compassionate. All the mistakes of her children AMMA forgives. 4 th house stands for mother. A mother is very patient and forgiving in nature towards her children. So the 4 th lord in lagna makes a person have forgiving nature. If fourth house is strong, the native will be of forgiving disposition. If mercury and mars occupy the sign of Saturn, the person will be intent in creating mirth. In chart 2 we see that mars and mercury are in makara. Makara is owned by Saturn. Thus mars and mercury are in the sign of Saturn. Native is more bent towards having good fun and amusement in life. If mars is in the 3rd house and mercury and moon are aspected by mars, the person will be intent on causing harm to others. If rahu and Saturn are in the 9th from navamsa of the navamsa of atmakaraka, the person will be treacherous to his own perceptor. 16

17 Chart 3 Analysis: The atmakaraka for the above chart is mars. The navamsa of mars is makara. The 9 th house from makara is Virgo. Rahu is in the 9 th from the navamsa of mars. Saturn is not in the 9 th house. The native left the guru after staying for many years. The native also spread false news and rumours on the Guru. We can clearly see that the rule mentioned above applies partially rule but does shows such indications of being treacherous to one s own perceptor. If the lord of lagna is without strength, the person can be treacherous. 17

18 Chart 4 Analysis: Lagna lord is mars for the above chart and is neecha or debilitated. The lagna also is at0 deg. This is not good for the health of the native as well. Lagna lord is in 4 th house along with malefic sun as well. All these combinations show that the person can be treacherous. If ketu occupy the navamsa of atmakaraka the person will be a thief. If the lord of the 12th house occupy 3rd, the person will be a robber. If the lord of 8th house occupy the 2nd the person will be a robber. 18

19 If mercury and mars occupy the 6th and be strong, the person will be a robber. If the lord of the 12th be in depression, the person will be addicted to vice. Chart 5 Analysis: 12th lord is sun and is in depression. 12th lord is in the 2nd house. So the 2nd house is also afflicted. 2nd and 12th houses affliction shows that the person can be addicted to vices. Sun is also with malefic mars. The native has addictions which stray him away from normal behavior of individuals. Native has strong addiction for food. Native of the chart has also other habits. Native is trying to come out of the habits, but finding it tough. Due to the 2nd and 12th lord and houses afflictions we can see the addictions by nature. 19

20 If the lord of lagna is in depression or in an inimical house, the person concerned will be addicted to some vice and will be unfortunate. In the above chart 5, the lagna lord is mercury. Mercury is in the 2 nd house with sun, which is debilitated. Mercury is with mars which is its enemy. Thus lagna lord is with a neecha planet and also with an enemy. This is also another strong reason why the native is addicted. Thus we have seen many sutras mentioned in the text and examples along with it. We shall continue our understanding with more sutras and examples in the next edition of the magazine. 20

21 Nakshatras - V Continuing on discussion on stars, We shall see the next star in order i.e Hasta, which is 13 th star. Hasta/Atham This star is ruled by moon. People of this star are emotional and passionate and mind oriented than intellectual. The native will be good and have material wealth and well settled in life. Its deity is sun. The anujanma star we have already seen for this is Rohini. The weakest part of the body for people of this star is throat, similar to rohini people. It belongs to deva gana and male gender. This is a good star for all activities. Black in color and consisting of five stars. It looks like a hand with five fingers. General Characteristics The native will lead a very happy life in his old age after acquiring name and fame. Deeply contemplative, he will be kind to all, give help and succour to all those who seek refuge, philanthropic and mindful of virtue or sin in every activity undertaken. He will be blessed with children, he will be devoted to elders and teachers, pious by nature and speaks behaves agreeably towards women. He is proficient in defeating his opponents. He is very persevering in all his undertakings however difficult it can be or whatever obstacles he may meet and will not sit quiet until he is successful. People born in this star will not begin any work without prior deep consideration. Once started they will not stop till it is done well, excellently finished. They will not do anything without material benefits. 21

22 All the four padas of this star fall in virgo. The lords of the padas are mars, venus, mercury and moon. Lord of the star moon and lord of the house of the star i.e mercury effect the star padas apart from the pada lords which differ for each pada. So now let s see the different padas and characteristics. 1 st pada: The ruler of pada is mars. Full of physical strength and mental vigour. Intellectual conflicts will be there. Will be wealthy and will have all comforts. Native will be daring in any work undertaken. He will be desirous of speaking truth only. 2 nd pada : Venus is the lord. Native is passionate. Oriented towards material benefits in life. Tough to be spiritual. Rajo guna dominant. Native will be soft spoken and charming in manners. He will be anxious to show his best to please people. He may be dull-witted. 3 rd pada: Mercury is the lord. The native will be intelligent and well learned in several languages. He will be a philanthropist, large hearted and will help others. As pointed our swami Vivekananda, belongs to third pada of hasta. We see that swami ji was very good at speaking and highly intellectual, due to mercury dominating. Mercury is also a sattva guna planet. Hence helps in spirituality. As being the nature of this star, swami was always contemplative in nature. Off course we all know how swami ji has contributed to the entire mankind. 4 th Pada: moon is the lord. Native will be highly emotional. They shall have poetic talents and can be writers. They will be wealthy. They will excel in government services and occupy high positions. They will help friends and relatives without hesitation. They will slightly be shot tempered. It s said that when the native reaches half the age of his father, the person s father would expire. This also shows that native s father will die early. Swami Vivekananda's belongs to this star. His father also died when swami ji was in his 20 s. it is a known fact that if hasta star is for a male and if the male's age comes exactly half of father (if this comes alone) then the father will die. 22

23 The native will be deeply contemplative in nature. They will start ruminating about even small things long ahead. As the star hasta stands for hand any work undertaken by them will be long-standing and will be for good of all. But any work started with selfish ends may not succeed. This is stated in nakshtra sootra. Rama s children lava and kusha were born in this star. Mostly those born in this star will work hard till middle age and then they will have a very happy life. It is stated that the native will loose his father early. When the sun transits this star the price of commodities will be low. If girls mature in this star they will beget good children and also lead a happy married life. It is good for the performance of weddings, naming ceremony, upanayana, beginning studies both scientific and vedic etc. If trade is started in this star, I will flourish. Excellent for learning mantras, good for meeting with high officials. Also for wears new jewellery and house warming ceremony. Good for agriculture and operations, especially sowing. Good too for starting lessons in sculpture. If travel is commenced it will be successful. The letter pu, sha, na and da are respectively appropriate for the four padas. The moon dasa lasting for 10 years pertains to this star. This star can be seen in the month of April about midnight like a hand with fingers. Hasta or attam is a very special star - the nature of this star people is very peculiar. They are smart but dull in nature. Their dullness isn't inherent dullness but it appears like that externally. Generally they might be slow to start but once started they will be quick to get to the result of actions. When we interact with them, what stands out is their dull (or in a way moody) nature. But socializing well, interacting well with people and being imaginative or creative is part of their nature. Their imagination, creativity and moodiness is due to being ruled by the planet moon. Like the waxing and waning of hte moon, they will also be moody. 23

24 We can see traces of indecisiveness, like rohini, for this star people as well. They will not be easily able to decide things - though internally they might be clear and unaffected, they will cause others to get unclear and affected. Therefore care should be ensured while working with these people or while interacting with such people. Another notable thing for this star is as it is ruled by moon, therefore people born in this star might be a bit feminine (or have feminine traits). Swami Vivekananda had a sweet or soft voice (like girls have) and in many others we can find a tinge of feminine in his appearance. Chitra Generally it is said that, according to a proverb that child born in this star is not good for the father. Generally the son born in this star is adopted by another. Sita Devi the wife of Sri Rama is said to be born in this star. It said that women born in this star will not have a happy married life. They will struggle after marriage as in the case of Sita Devi. This star is female gender, animal symbol is tiger(female) and rakshasa gana. The weakest part for this star is head. Mars is the ruler of this star. The anujanma for this star is mrigasira. It is white in color and pearl-white. It shines solitarily. It is also called soumyatara as it shines peerlessly white in sky. General characteristics The natives of this star behave familiarly with women. They expose their lascivious nature. They have long beautiful eyes, sweet words and charming looks. They use cosmetics liberally. With their affable manners and endearing speech, they are able to work out their designs. It is an auspicious star for all activities. They are more socializing and mingle well with people. They are tactful in their dealings with others. They need people around them. They liked to be praised and are artistic nature. It is Tough for them to be spiritual. They want name and fame. The four padas of the star are ruled by sun, mercury, venus and mars. But 2 padas of chitra fall in virgo and 2 padas in thula. 24

25 1 st pada: Sun is the ruler of the pada. The planets to be considered are mars, mercury and sun. The native will occupy high position in life. Able to command others. He would like to rule over others. He may not be steady minded or level minded. They are socializing and are helpful. They will be guided by spiritual people. They will be undertaking works for establishment of dharma. They cannot do lower level jobs. They are egoistic in nature, power seeking and aggressive but smart. 2 nd pada : Mercury is the ruling planet. They native is learned and intelligent. But he lacks in manliness and charm. They are pious and sweet tongued. They can turn spiritual. They can get things done what they attempt to complete. 3 rd pada: Venus is the lord. They are passionate people. They have desires and good at social life. They enjoy all pleasures. They are kind hearted. Assist others in times of need and danger. He will behave respectfully towards the wise. They would like to have name and fame. Being always kind by nature, it is called abhayaamsam. 4 th pada: Ruled by mars. They are bold and daring and will manage any situation. He will have even the ability to command a band of burglars or terrorists. If in an army, he will be able to display fearless attitude. He can shine as an able surgeon in the medical services. They are aggressive, dominating, egoistic, work oriented and martian in nature. This star is good for collecting herbs for preparation of ayurvedic medicine. If fever commences in this star shaanti neds to be done. It is good star for girls to mature. They will beget good children. Good star for all auspicious ceremonies. The star is auspicious for commencing learning of fine arts, music, dance and also for Vedas and sastras. Good for architectural activities also. Such letters as pe, po, re, ree are respectively for the four padas of this star. Mars lasting for 7 years is connected with the star. This star shines like a fish or the eye of a tiger and seen in the month of april at 1a.m just above the head. 25

People born in this star mix well with others. They are very socializing in nature. Well behaved but at the same time mingling very easily, they will generally have lot of people around them (in the form of friends and others). Due to being very social in nature they also are volatile or fluctuating in nature. They generally will also want people around them - if not, they cannot live or survive. Any person who wants people around him or her would also be selfish to an extent. This star people generally are selfish and everything that is done will be keeping in mind their selfish motives. Swati/Chothi The 15 th star in the order is Swati. Rahu is the ruling planet. The anujanma of this star is Ardra. People belonging to this star are worldly as Rahu represents mundane life and unconventional. It belongs to Deva gana and bullock male is the animal symbol for this star. The weakest part of the body for these natives is throat. Oysters are supposed to come out during rainy season with their mouths open and when a raindrop falls into them, it turns into a pearl after some time. The rain drops falling during the swati star period turn into pearls. It is red color and a single star shining like a ruby. Feminine in gender, belonging to the dual kula. General Characteristics Those born in this star are lucky, philanthropic, famous, kind and gentle by nature, with long eyes and broad chests. 26

Generally pleasure seeking and spirituality is tough for them. The four padas of this star are ruled by Jupiter, Saturn, Saturn and Jupiter. The planets to be considered are venus, rahu and the pada lord. 1 st pada: All the four padas belong to the libra sign. The first pada is ruled by Jupiter. The native will be rolling in wealth. Native will also be intelligent and courageous. He will speak eloquently, will know several languages and even will have ability to compose poems. Lot of success in life, Lot of name and fame, power and royality. They are more rajoguna than tamoguna. 2 nd pada : Saturn is the lord of this pada. The native will be seen to be full of gratitude. They are stubborn, dominating, daring and adamant in nature. Convincing them is tough. Of all the stars swathi is supposed to be the best. It is good for collecting herbs for preparation of medicine. Those born in the star will be very careful before starting any work. But the star is not good for travels. When sun transits this star, the prices of commodities will be very moderate. Swathi is good for girls to mature. They will lead a happy married life and will beget children. Such a girl will be highly respected and treated as "mahalakshmi". It is good for agricultural activities too. It is excellent for celebration of all auspicious ceremonies like weddings. Good for wearing ornaments, dresses, ornmanets upanayanam etc. Any activity commenced in this star will bring good results. The letters "ru", "ray", 'ro' and 'tha' are correlated respectively to 4 padas of the star. The rahu lasting for 18 yrs pertains to this star. The star will be shining like a ruby in the month of june after 10p.m. Summarizing swathi is generally good for boys than girls. swathi people are bold, stubborn an adamant, so if it is a girl, then married life will be troublesome. They are pleasure seeking and want name and fame. Generally men are supposed to be bold and women are supposed to soft in nature. There are situations where the opposite also might be happening - the control isn't with us but this 28

Regarding what happens if men are like women and women are like men, we just have to look in today's families where there are two men in the house (rather than a man and a woman) - this affects the smooth working in the family and children as well in turn will be affected. Now what's this got to do with Swathi? There are stars that have masculine qualities and others that have feminine qualities - therefore they are good for men or women (not for both in some cases). Swathi is a star that is good for men as people born in this star are strong, bold, dominating in nature. Though they will be considerate in nature, still it is all about what they want in life - they just want whatever they want at all costs. It s good to have an understanding about Lunar month and year as well, before we get into other terms of the panchanga. We shall see how the tithi makes up the month. Every month starts with shukla padyami and ends with amavasya. Shukla paksha and Krishna paksha together make a lunar month. It constitutes 30 days. Hence the number of days in a month in English calendar days and vedic calendar differ. Each region based on the language have their naming convention, but the general method followed is the same. The name may differ, but it s based on the sun s position. Almost all regions in india, have the starting of the year almost at the same time, differing in few days. The name of a month depends on the location of the sun. When the sun transits out of a rasi, then next month begins. For example when sun is in mesha, the name of the month is called chaitra. So below are the names of the months based on the position of the sun. Then the name of the month can be interpreted as below a) Only one transit, then the month is named after the rasi. Example: If the Sun transits in to Mesha during a Lunar month, then the month is called Chaitra Maasa. When the Sun transits in to Vrishabha, then the lunar month is Vaishākha. b) No Sun transit in a lunar month: If the sun is in one rasi and keeps moving in the same rasi in the next lunar month, then the lunar month is named after the first upcoming transit. This month is called Adhika(extra). An adhika occurs once in two or three years. Example : If a lunar month elapsed without a sun transit and the next month is mesha. Then the name of the month will be adhika chaitra. c) Two sun transits in a lunar month. If sun transits into two rasis within a lunar month. The month is labeled by first transit and with the word Kshaya(lost). The month related to the second transit is lost and that month will not be there that year. Example: If sun moves in mesha and Taurus in one lunar month, Its called chaitra kshaya. There won t be vaisakha during this year. The days in a month are named after the tithi like shukla padyami to amavasya. Thus there are 12 months in a year and each year also has a name. There is a cycle of 60 names of years which repeat again and again. Let s now move onto the second portion of the panchagam, vaara. We have seen tithi and so now we shall see vaara. 31

This can be for any ailment to the body or for child birth. We would like to know whether the time we undergo the operation is good and whether it will assure that the operation is successful. All want well being and good health. We can ensure this through astrology by checking the planetary locations and determining the apt time, so that our efforts put in a direction become fruitful. For any operation from critical to normal, it s good to check the time whether it s favourable for operation or not. As it involves the emotions of the family members, money invested in the operation, efforts of the family members and finally well being of the individual. So it s good to ensure that the time is favourable as well. Above all the wellbeing of the individual who is undergoing operation is of utmost importance. The planetary influences determine the future for us. Thus based on the gochara, one can determine the time, when the chances of the operation being successful is more. Operation is connected with the planet mars. Mars stands for weapons, so for the same reason for operations the planet mars has to be studied. For any incident, event, in life, if it has to be successful there should be no obstacles. Sometimes we may not be able to be able to satisfy all the conditions or all the key factors. As the proverb goes, Man proposes God disposes. Then we should be able to choose the better evil. Good and bad are part of life and we cannot avoid bad completely and have only good effects. There are always two sides of the coin. There will only few such times when all good effects are seen. Even Ravana the most powerful king could not control the planets at the time of birth of his child Indrajit. Due to which Indrajit had short life. Rest all we know is history. One should be practical as well in determining the time of operation. Sometimes the operations have to be performed morning or only night. Considering these practical aspects as well, one should arrive at the most favourable time. Two key factors here 1) 8 th house should not have planets as it indicates obstacles. 2) Also as operation is being performed on the person, the lagna and lagna lord should also be strong and not afflicted or debilitated. 3) As the purpose is for children, the 5 th house and lord should be unafflicted. Jupiter also should be well placed. The order of preference is in the order as given above. We shall try to pick up a time that satisfies all these factors or an optimal time satisfying most of the conditions. 34

35 Chart for operation Analysis: The date the operation was fixed was on May 19 th Between 4a.m to 6a.m in the morning, the lagna was Aries on the given day of operation. At 9 p.m, the same day the lagna changed to Sagittarius. So during the day the lagnas between Taurus and Thula are available for operation. The client needed a day time for performing the operation. Let s see the possibilities. I. If Lagna is Aries: Lagna lord mars will be in the 6 th house of diseases. So this is not a favourable position for lagna lord. Though the 8 th house is clear without any planets, the lagna lord is not well placed. Hence we cannot have this lagna for the operation. II. If Lagna is Taurus: Lagna lord venus is exalted and is in 11th house. This is very good. 11th house is house of benefits and lagna lord located in it shows only benefits 35

36 from the operation. Also lagna lord exalted means the person s health will be good after the operation. 8 th house is free from planets. 6th house has yogakarka Saturn exalted. Though planet is there in 6 th it is not harmful as its yogakaraka and it is exalted. The 5 th house has mars and mandi and are afflicted. But venus exalted also aspects 5 th house, bringing down bad effects to an extent. So more than 2 factors are satisfied if it is Taurus lagna. So this is favourablelagna to an extent. III. If Lagna is Mithuna: Moon is located in the 8 th house. Moon also stands for body nutrition and well being. So moon in 8 th is not a good indication for operation. Also the lagna lord mercury is the 12 th house. This is not a favourable location for lagna lord. 12 th house is house of losses. Hence both the factors are not favourable. This lagna may not be favourable for the operation. IV. If Lagna is Cancer: 8 th house is free from planets which is a good indication. Lagna lord is in the 7 th house and hence well placed. But moon is in saturn s house, which is not very good.saturn exalted is located in the 4 th house with rahu. Saturn is a malefic as it is owner of the 8 th house. 8 th lord in 4 th house of mother is not good for mother, who is giving birth to child. Also another malefic rahu is also in the same house. Venus is the lord of the 4 th house and is exalted and well placed in the 9th house. Jupiter also aspects the 4 th house. So mixed effects are shown for the 4 th house or for the mother of the child. 5 th lord mars which indicates children is with mandi. It is also not well placed. Mars is in the 3 rd house and also in the house of enemy mercury. Jupiter also which is indicator of children is in the 12 th house. So the 5 th house and karakas have some affliction. 4 th house also shows some afflictions. Hence it is not very favourable. V. If Lagna is Leo: Venus which is a benefic is in the 8 th house. So it is not favourable. Moon also is located in the 6 th house. Lagna lord is well placed in 10 th. But due to planets in the 8 th and 6 th houses, this lagna may not be favourable for the operation. VI. If Lagna is Virgo: Mars and mandi in lagna. This is not a good indication for operation. Mars and mandi show bad effects.mandi in lagna gives short life. Ketu is also placed in the 8 th house. Due to these factors, this may not be an appropriate lagna. 36

37 VII. If Lagna is Thula: Rahu is in lagna, though Saturn the yogakaraka is present as well in lagnaits not very favourable. The lagna lord though exalted is in 6 th house of diseases. So lagna lord location is not very favourable. Also there are two planets in the 8 th house from lagnai.e sun and mercury. So all these factors rule out the chances of taking this lagna for the operation. VIII. If Lagna is Scorpio: lagna lord mars is in the 11 th house. This is a very favourable position. But from lagna Jupiter is in the 8 th house. This indicates trouble at the time of operation. It is also the 5 th lord, so not a favourable position for Jupiter. Thus this lagna is not advisable for operation. IX. If Lagna is Saggitarius: Lagna lord is in the 7 th house. So it is well placed. No planets in the 8 th house. Sun and mercury are in 6 th house. Sun in 6 th house indicates victory as well so it is not a bad placement. 5 th house is aspected by Saturn which is exalted. So it s a good timings as well to perform the operation as lagna lord is well placed. The 5 th lord mars is well placed in 10 th house and no planets in the 8 th house from lagna. So this is a favourablelagna and timing for the operation. So we see that Taurus and saggitarius are more favourable as lagna, for performing the operation. Cancer lagna has mixed effects. He married later and has a daughter who is now a dancer. His wife attained mahasamadhi as per her wish, when the child was around 9 years of age. Jaggivasudev built Dhyanalinga, a consecration for mediation. He says that the aim of his life is to establish the dhyanalinga. He went through many hardships for the same.
