3 FOREWORD By Beverlee Welcome to the exhilarating world of Vedic Astrology -- a tried and true system of knowledge for understanding your place in the scheme of things! I think you ll find your Vedic Horoscope Analysis extremely stimulating and informative. It should feel like seeing yourself through a new lens -- perhaps for the first time. I m fortunate to be able to provide this astrological perspective through the efforts of Das Goravani, author of the Vedic Astrology computer program Goravani Jyotish. As you read his introduction and explanation of Jyotish following this foreword, I think you ll understand why I chose Das s program from among those on the market. He has clearly created it with love and reverence for the divine -- a love and reverence which I share. Granted, some of the verses drawn from ancient texts are archaic, (but interesting!). Please note that some of the language sounds dire or at the least, very dramatic! I think you have to temper these ancient texts with your own awareness. Also, any astrology reading has what appear to be contradictions or inconsistencies. That s because there are different aspects in our charts, which mirror the different parts of our psychological makeup which are not always consistent, either. 4 INTRODUCTION By Das Goravani Vedic Astrology is called Jyotish which is a Sanskrit word. Jyoti means light and Ish is short for Ishwar, which means God. So Jyoti-Ishwar or the Light of God is pronounced Jyotish (ja-yo-teesh). Using Jyotish, or Vedic Astrology, means to recognize that God does His or Her work of controlling the upbringing of all the children of the Universe through a complex interactive system of energy rays, or light. The focal points of this energy are the spheres we know as planets, which the Vedic Books of Knowledge teach us are actually personal Demi-Gods. It is through these focal points, in their ever-changing dance around our solar system, that we can read the unfoldment of the plan of God for us. What is planned for us as individuals is frozen in time and in our birthchart, which are simply maps of the heavenly bodies at the moment of our birth in relation to our place of birth. The Sages of ancient India, receiving this science from God, passed it down through generations of their disciples. Eventually, around 5,000 years ago, they began to put their science into written form and it has been recorded and passed on that way ever since. Now, in modern times, we have the advantage of the accuracy of astronomy and computers. I have written a very astronomically precise chart-calculating software program. Into the program I have entered many readings from classic and modern astrological scholars describing the meanings of the planetary positions in the birthchart. In your hands you now hold your readings--each of the specific placements of the planets in your birthchart. As you examine the readings given for your birthchart, remember that they are unblended, and therefore may cancel each other out to some degree, and also balance each other out. For example, one paragraph may say that you have a strong positive quality, while another paragraph may assert that you have the strong opposite negative quality. Which is right? The truth lies in the middle; at some point in your life you will no doubt experience one quality, and at other times you experience the other. There will be a blending of the two opposite energies throughout your life. There is a certain beauty in knowing that Divine Order has a plan for us, don t you agree? We can, after surrendering to this fact, go through life, with all its ups and downs, in a happy state of mind which the Hindus call detachment. What happens, in the end, is not entirely up to us. We are players in an already written play, and we generally don t know the script, but there is one, and it comes from a purely benevolent Divine Order. Our dreams, hopes and wishes are generally self-centered and based on a vision of ourselves as these bodies we temporarily inhabit. But this is not the vision of Divine Order, which sees us instead as 4

5 gradually evolving souls learning lessons in each life, which are retained, though the material attainments of each life are not. The purpose of life is not necessarily to be happy! It is to learn our lessons well, and those, the Vedas say, are carried forward to our next destinations. Therefore, it is important when approaching a comprehension of Vedic astrology, to understand that it is not our servant, but rather, we are its servants. I hope I ve helped you understand how to begin analyzing your chart more fully because it s my personal goal to spread these basic principles to as many people as possible. I truly believe the end result will be an expansion of the overall enlightened state of society. The more we all believe that the benevolent hand of Divine Order is guiding our lives, the more we will be able to surrender to that Divine Plan, which leads us, as individuals, to ever-higher states of Grace and Perfection. If the wealth and status you acquire are not employed for the public good, it will be foolishly dissipated. You learn that all power must come to an end. You are a popular "go-with-the-flow" kind of person. You are very responsive to changes in the environment and other peoples' needs. However, you may change your mind and direction on matters for the wrong reasons and thus gain disfavor from others. People may consider you somewhat careless about the needs and feelings of others on occasion. You may experience some restriction in life from natural movement. You will get best results from making choices which benefit you long term, avoiding a tendency which may surface to bend rules for immediate gratification. You have a well-proportioned, tall body with a broad head, long nose and bright eyes. A charming and graceful appearance with fair complexion. You will be refined, soft-spoken, pure-hearted and an innocent looking countenance. In case you happen to occupy a very high position in society, you will not like to express pomp and show and will dress simply. You give respect to all and are Godfearing. It is not easy for others to find out your underlying merits and demerits. It is only after several acquaintances and dealings one can come to a conclusion about your behavioral aspect. In most of the cases, it has been noticed that there will be a black mole around your waist or on the face. A slight reddish color is noticed in your eyes. You will be very plain in your dealings and will show utmost sincerity in all the work you undertake. You will not deceive others and would not like to cause any trouble to others. So much so, due to your inherent good behavior quality you often land into uncalled for problems. You may enjoy sexual activity not condoned by others. You may suffer from ear pain or hip, thigh pain. There are some indications of lung disorders. You will be cunning. Your spouse may suffer from a weak constitution. You will blessed with learning, courage and wealth. Like to live in forests. You may be a woodcutter or forest officer or a person dealing with wooden articles. Related injuries may occur. You will be a leader and will earn wealthy in businesses dealing with water. You will be separated from your father early in life. You will be a good poet, leader of a group, will marry a virtuous spouse, be intent on helping others, and an expert singer. 8

9 You will enjoy a very high position. You may be a minister or head of a department. You will have good and dutiful children. You will have a good personality. You may suffer from upper respiratory ailments. Avoid overuse of intoxicants. You will probably have younger siblings. You will possess a weak constitution. One born under this combination will not have a healthy constitution. It will lack the requisite power of resistance so that you fall easy prey to disease. A good fifth house blesses your offspring, especially your first child and generally your relationships with children, according to the standard Indian interpretation of these placements known as "Suputra Yogas", or combinations that make for an "auspicious son". It also speaks to overall ability and success in the process of creation and off-springing quality things in life. A well aspected fourth house or a favorably placed fourth lord can indicate living in nice houses, owning nice cars and having a fortunate mother or having a good relationship with her. It is a beneficial indication for overall happiness in life. Comely in appearance and famous in the religious field. Gains money by trading in goods across waters or by dealing in aqueous products. You are of fixed determination but cruel, and occupy a very exalted position. Happiness, education, conveyances, lands, agriculture, etc., will thrive well. You will construct new houses. You will plant trees and your agriculture will flourish. Inclined to help others. You have literary or poetic tastes, are a connoisseur of music, drama and dancing, have a good spouse, and occupy a good position. Jupiter in this sign arouses egotism, allowing you to justify every action. Luxurious habits, idealism, and secret maneuvers will bring much wealth and power. Life will long and death or illness will be caused due to water-borne diseases. Injury to the head. May be employed in the military. In some cases poor vision has also been noticed. Lower half of the body is lean and upper part proportionately bigger and thick. You do not like cold weather or your health will not permit you to stay in cold regions. You will have a high fever continuing for a longer period when you are 9

10 20 years old. The left parts of your body will be subjected to burns at 35 years old, but you will live for 90 years. May suffer from ear trouble. Will bestow long life and wealth. Tends to work for causes, or their faiths- good for being religious and a religious worker. Wealth through succession. The Moon makes one ritualistic, and surrounded by psychologically disturbed persons. Your relations take advantage of you. The Ascendant lord, Venus or Jupiter are located in a Kendra, which will bless your overall live to some degree. To have at least one good angular placement is of advantage for material life in general. If all three planets are in Kendras, then the Yoga would have an accordingly more strong and powerful effect. Fortune, wealth and other material blessings would be almost guaranteed throughout life. Saturn is exalted in this sign, and as such it sheds much of its malefic nature. Saturn makes you very well-disciplined, having perfect control over your psychobiological reactions. You will be able to manage your property efficiently. You may be interested in spiritual knowledge, through which, in your own way, you will be preparing yourself to meet the final challenge. You will accept no one's guidance in this regard. Mercury in this sign will not be damaging, though your social life is not all it could be. Your life will be a core of secrecy, and you may receive some legacy. There may be much renown and status as well. Libra in the Twelfth house makes you indulgent in sensual pleasures. You are interested in worldly status, and religious sensibilities are somewhat directed toward mere observances. Cancer is essentially a sign of mental relaxation and enjoyment of the senses which often operates through narrow parochialism. Even when you are under its influence professing generosity and universal sympathy, your gaze is concentrated on maintaining your own position in society and on selfaggrandizement. 10-With Leo in the Tenth house you may be subject to delusions. This position sometimes leads to the performance of undesirable acts. 08-With Gemini in the eighth house, you are unable to control or regulate the powerful impulses of your karmic past, as a result of which you move in directions motivated by your subconscious. 11 several conflicting ideals. You know your motivations are selfish and narrowminded, but you also possesses a profundity of vision which shows you the shallowness of your own life. Intellectually, you will be quite sound, and your intellect will often lead to spirituality. 03-Capricorn in the Third house will produce many unexpected relationships in your life. Under this sign, you associate with crystal gazers, occultists, and religious philosophers. You are sharp-witted and quick in grasping the significance of any situation. 01-Scorpio in the Ascendant bestows physical beauty and attractive legs and thighs. Sensitive to criticism, you can be very alert and quarrelsome. You seem to take special delight in verbally chastisng your friends. Ordinarily, you are lucky in marriage but your sex life remains undisciplined. Your children could be famous, your friends eminent, but you are unable to establish an enduring relationship with them. Adventurous, firm, fierce, trustworthy, amusing, have a big family, serve a great leader, have enemies, be pious, will give money to others, possess an amiable spouse, be religious, affectionate. You have an attractive appearance; strong; wealthy; generous; many luxury items and vehicles, but you possess a fiery temper. Sexy, jealous, gains and success through others, grants wealth and attendants. You are honest and generous, blessed with children, a scholar. Calculating in money matters. A good singer, susceptible to ill effects from cold, or cold things, fond of truth and charity, distinguished, famous, libidinous, may reach for things out of reach, or try to take that which is not rightfully yours, poetic. Moon connected with Mars indicates extreme sensitivity. The Moon/Mars person may also be reckless, explosive and impulsive in action. 03-The Moon in the Third House discourages the influence and importance of siblings and makes you very courageous whenever someone creates trouble for you. Otherwise, you will be a person of few words, concerned with enjoying the good life, spending time with your family, and interested in spiritual matters. You are naturally austere in one sense, and therefore not easily attracted to superficial beauty. Your faith brings you success or renown, and you like your 11

12 siblings very much. Happiness in general is something you get from your karma. You have a changeable disposition, and like intellectual pursuits. You have good times with those you consider your brothers and sisters. You may hurt family ties by your desire to enjoy with those whom your family considers outside your allowed circle of associates. You like short journeys for pleasure. This brings the following general characteristics, which get modified by specific aspects and characteristics in other places in your chart. You may experience fluctuating commitment to your activities and undertakings, but your overall attractive personality and qualities will make you well liked. You will probably be good looking, but you may have trouble from imbalances inside the body like indigestion. You may experience distress from too much hard work, you will like intoxicants, but will be virtuous and honorable, eloquent. You may have talent in the areas of time, space, science, geography, cartography, navigation, etc. You have sharp mental ability, critical thinking, good energy for lots of education. Some trouble may appear in the body parts connected with Gemini such as the lungs or arms. Brothers and sisters pose somewhat of a problem. There is some indication that you will have two spousal relationships, but this is a very general reading. The cause of this reading is very common being in almost half of all charts. Therefore, take it as just one small indication in that direction, to be combined with other more powerful combinations which are more certain. Mars has a tremendous influence in this sign and house, creating a whirlwind of past karmic forces drawing both good and bad to the surface. Intellect and sociability are greatly accentuated, but you are vulnerable to surgical operations and accidents. Your words often become violent, but you attain wealth and a sumptuous legacy. You have to deal with an unlucky spouse and may have to also deal with people who lose their spouses and go around causing trouble to others because of their inability to take full responsibility for their lives and actions. Gains success through yoga. Fond of songs, music, dance and philosophy. If other indications agree, you may excel in dance, drama, acting, etc. You will have a pleasing personality, wealthy, 12

13 be of good speech and have much merit. Wise, happy and intelligent; you lead a comfortable life. Your eyesight or hearing may suffer. A noted dancer or athlete, or a scholar, singer or instrumentalist.,this is an auspicious combination generally. You are very inventive and smart. It is very difficult to find an executive or diplomat more talented than you. You like to study and therefore, you have a liking for science and technology. You like to be well-informed and you are very sociable and friendly. You will have general overall good health. You will find happiness in life, somehow or another. Truly kind and reliable, and not too interested in expanding your social circle. You have a liking for literature, occult studies, enlightening things. You may attempt publishing, but due to various miscalculations and relatives you sometimes suffer loss of money. Jupiter is the indicator (karaka) of fortune, children and body. Good longevity is indicated. Jupiter in this position operates like a filter which permits past religious impulses to manifest only in terms of traditional belief systems. Consequently you become learned, industrious, interested in the scriptural knowledge of your tradition and the higher values of life. The spouse may come from a religious concern. This placement is a "dhana yoga", which means a combination of planetary influences known to create wealth. The more dhana yogas one has, the more likely they are to be wealthy in this life. Wealthy people usually have at least two, and sometimes 5 dhana yogas. You may be a very rich person or you will have a large number of children. You father will be a good person, charitable, and performer of good deeds, he will also be dedicated to those wiser than himself. Sarala Yoga is indicated. This helps you become long-lived, fearless, learned, a threat to your enemies, celebrated and prosperous. You may get a good inheritance. You have the ability to hypnotize or influence others. The birth of children is highly likely, especially during Jupiter periods. The Moon will give favorable results during her periods. Can attain a leadership position or receive money and respect from a leader. Proficient in mathematics.
